Hatchbacks are making quite a comeback in the United States with automakers continuing to offer hatchback versions of their compact sedans. Recently, we’ve seen a hatchback version of the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, and Honda gave the Civic Hatchback one of the best redesigns we’ve seen in a long time.

While hatchbacks are known for their go-kart-like maneuverability and outstanding fuel economy numbers, most people purchase them for their ability to offer more utility due to their large cargo areas. If cargo space is one of your biggest necessities for buying a hatchback you might want to consider the ones that offer exceptional space in the boot.

With that in mind, read ahead to find out which made our list of top 10 Hatchbacks with the Most Cargo Space.

2017 Kia Soul

Unlike most conventional hatchbacks, the Kia Soul has a boxy design that helps it offer one of the most spacious cabins in the segment. There isn’t much that the Kia Soul isn’t capable of carrying in its large cargo area which offers a maximum of 49.5 cubic feet. Comparatively, that’s around 10 cubic feet smaller than the Kia Sportage crossover. That space makes the Kia Soul the perfect vehicle for grocery shopping, airport runs, and short road trips for your next family vacation.

2017 Honda Fit

The Honda Fit is one of the best-selling vehicles from the Japanese automaker. Known for carrying a high resale value, the Honda Fit is also very popular for offering a spacious cabin. Like the Kia Soul, the Honda Fit also opts for a boxier design that helps offer a huge entry point when loading the cabin area. With the seats folded flat, the Honda Fit offers a total cargo space of 52.7 cubic feet - which is almost as big as the Honda HR-V sub compact crossover. Even with the rear seats in user position, the Honda Fit is capable of fitting two full-size travel bags without any issues. With the seats down, you can stuff the Honda Fit with everything from two bicycles, furniture, large camping gear, and big boxes.

2017 Fiat 500L

Fiat is on a roll with its lineup of cute hatchbacks. Building on the success of the FIAT 500, the Italian automaker has decided to offer a subcompact crossover version called the FIAT 500X and a larger version of the hatchback called the FIAT 500L. The Fiat 500L competes with the likes of the Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen, and offers an outstanding cargo space of up to 68 cubic feet which is big enough for as many golf bags as you need for your next golfing trip with friends or family. The Fiat 500L also offers the most cargo capacity on our list so if space is your primary concern, you'll want to test drive one as soon as possible. With the rear seats in user position, you'll enjoy a total of 22.4 cubic feet of space which is big enough for at least four travel bags.

2017 Lexus CT 200h

Many luxury automakers have recently been jumping in on the hatchback segment; however, there is one luxury hatchback that's been around for quite some time - the Lexus CT 200h. In the United States, the Lexus CT 200h was around before the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. Also, unlike the A3 and CLA-Class, it's exclusively available as a hatchback. With the seats folded flat, the Lexus CT 200h offers a strong 14.3 cubic feet - and putting down the 60/40 split seats will allow you to easily fit two to three full-size travel bags or two golf bags.

2017 Mercedes-Benz B-Class

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is the only electric hatchback to make it on our list which makes it pretty special. The Mercedes-Benz B-Class follows the Kia Soul and Honda Fit when it comes to its boxy styling which means you'll get to enjoy some nice cargo capacity. With the rear seats folded you'll get to use a total of 51.4 cubic feet, and with the seats up you'll get 21.6 cubic feet. That means you'll have little issues when taking a trip to the grocery store or even IKEA to pick up some small furniture. Not to mention you'll be traveling in the lap of luxury.

2017 Toyota Prius V

The Toyota Prius lineup has expanded in the past couple of years. The hybrid model has graduated from its hatchback styling to offer the smaller Toyota Prius c and the Toyota Prius v. The latter of the two is the one we're interested in as it provides significant cargo capacity with a total of 67.3 cubic feet. More than enough for at least three golf bags and three pieces of full-size travel bags - all at one time. Even with the seats in user position, the Toyota Prius V offers a total of 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space - which is more than enough for four pieces of travel luggage, and a couple of other small size carry on bags. Of course, the Toyota Prius V's EPA rated fuel economy of 43/39 (city/highway) is also very attractive.
