If you’re looking for a little more light and ventilation in your truck, then a sunroof might be just the option you're looking for. If you’ve already been shopping for a pickup with a sunroof, you may have noticed that not all models offer the option on every body style or trim level, and the models that do have a fairly wide array of different moonroof configurations.

Whether you’re looking for a midsize pickup, a fullsize truck or a heavy-duty workhorse, our expert editors’ list of the best trucks with a sunroof should have you covered. Read on to see what options are out there, how they rate, and maybe even which model is the best for you.

2019 Nissan Frontier

The midsize Nissan Frontier offers a power sliding glass moonroof with tilt feature, but it’s only available on a few select models. It’s optional on the SV, for example, and standard on the PRO-4X, but only on crew cab models.

Like most of the other vehicles on our list of the best trucks with a sunroof, only the front passengers get the benefit of extra light, with rear passengers only getting an increase in ventilation. But the current Frontier has been on the market for quite a while at this point, so it does have a bit of an excuse (and many of the newest midsize trucks don’t offer a sunroof). If you’re looking for a midsize truck with some off-road cred and a sunroof, the Frontier might be worth a look.

2019 Toyota Tundra

The fullsize Toyota Tundra is available with a power tilt and slide moonroof with a sliding sunshade, but it’s only available on the higher-end Limited, Platinum, and top-of-the-line 1794 Edition, and only on CrewMax trucks.

The Tundra’s moonroof covers only the front seat passengers, and adding the moonroof also deletes the overhead console and its storage area. The Tundra has been on the market for quite some time with only a refresh here and there, so an all-new model should be arriving for the 2021 model year. The redesign might get a larger moonroof option, but we’ll have to wait and see.

2018 Ram 2500 / 3500

Ram offers a power sunroof on its heavy-duty fullsize 2500 and 3500 trucks in Crew Cab and Mega Cab configuration on SLT, Big Horn, Laramie (and Laramie Longhorn), and Limited trims. A sunroof also is available on the Power Wagon, an off-road oriented and quite capable version of the heavy-duty Ram.

Unlike its regular-duty sibling, the 2500 and 3500 have yet to be redesigned and only offer a traditional sunroof over the front seats. A new heavy-duty Ram is on the horizon and should appear for the 2020 model year, at which time it may or may not get a dual-pane moonroof like the RAM 1500, along with a host of other improvements to bring it up to date.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado HD / GMC Sierra HD

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra line of heavy-duty trucks are due for a redesign for the 2020 model year, and until then, the current model soldiers on for 2019 with just a traditional power tilt and slide sunroof option over the front seats. It provides a welcome amount of light and ventilation, but it isn’t up to the standard set by the best trucks with a sunroof.

Will the new GM heavy-duty trucks offer a dual-pane or panoramic moonroof option? If the recent redesign of the light-duty Silverado and Sierra are any indication, then unfortunately the chances are quite low, but we can hope that GM sees the light (and lets rear seat passengers see the light, as well).

2019 Toyota Tacoma

While it isn’t the newest kid on the block, the Toyota Tacoma still is one of the most capable midsize pickups on the market, and it offers a power tilt and slide moonroof with a sliding sunshade on higher-end models. The sunroof is available on Double Cabs in TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road trims. It comes standard on Limited models, as well as the impressively off-road capable TRD Pro, both of which are available exclusively in Double Cab configuration.

A new Tacoma should be arriving around the 2021 model year, but we don’t yet know if a dual-pane sunroof will be available in the new model. Until then, the Tacoma remains a good choice for those who want one of the best midsize trucks with a sunroof.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500

The fullsize Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra offer a power sunroof, available on CrewCab models on higher-end trims. Despite being brand new trucks for 2019 and unlike its main fullsize competitors, the Silverado and Sierra offer only a small sunroof positioned over the front seats.

Like a traditional sunroof, it retracts into the roof at the press of a button, and offers tilt and slide features with both express open and close. But compared to the best trucks with a sunroof it isn’t all that impressive, and GM offers no sunroof option on its Double Cab trucks. The new Silverado and Sierra are good trucks, but if a sunroof is your priority there are better options out there.

2019 Honda Ridgeline

The midsize Honda Ridgeline is the most car-like vehicle on our list of the best trucks with a sunroof, so it’s no surprise that Honda offers its pickup with what it calls a one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature. The feature is standard on RTL (including RTL-T and RTL-E) and Black Edition trims, but not available at all on the lower-end RT and Sport trims.

Despite all Ridgelines being crew cab models, the sunroof covers only the front passengers, leaving the rear seats in the dark. If you’re looking for an everyday vehicle with a sunroof that can handle light truck duties, the Honda Ridgeline offers a good compromise between a car and a truck and might be perfect.

2019 Ford F-150

A twin-panel moonroof is available on SuperCrew F-150s in XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, and is standard on Limited models. The same sunroof also is available on SuperCrew versions of the Raptor, Ford’s amazingly off-road capable truck.

The twin-panel moonroof is just that, two pieces of glass in the roof that cover a large section of the cab, including the rear seats. Only the front section of the moonroof opens, but it still provides a large opening and there’s a sunshade to keep the interior cool on hot days. Unfortunately, Ford doesn’t offer a smaller sunroof option on its regular or SuperCab trucks, leaving some buyers out of luck.

2019 Ford SuperDuty

Ford’s fullsize SuperDuty trucks (including the F-250, F-350, and F-450) were updated for the 2017 model year (making it newer than the rest of its heavy-duty competition), at which point Ford began offering a twin-panel power moonroof very similar to the one found in the current F-150.

The sunroof only is available on SuperCrew models and on XLT and higher trims, but it’s the only heavy-duty truck with such an expansive piece of glass in its roof. So if you need a super-duty truck and want the one that can let in the most natural light possible, then a Ford F-250 or F-350 is the obvious choice, making it one of the best heavy-duty trucks with a sunroof.

2019 Ram 1500

The RAM 1500 is new for 2019, and it offers two different sunroof options. Crew Cab models get a dual-pane power roof that’s available on Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited trims, and provides natural sunlight and a panoramic view for both front and rear seat passengers.

Quad Cab models get a single-pane power sunroof that’s available on Big Horn, Rebel, and Laramie trims, making it just about the only non-crew-cab truck available with a moonroof. This makes it the obvious choice for those who want a sunroof but don’t need the extra passenger capacity of a crew cab. This variety of options helps make the Ram 1500 one of the best fullsize trucks with a sunroof.
