Over the past few years there has been a dramatic decrease in the number of inexpensive light duty trucks offered here in the U.S. It seemed to have started with the Ford Ranger, which seemed to be a very popular truck at the time of its demise. Now the Chevrolet Colorado, Nissan Frontier, Dodge Dakota, and Suzuki Equator have all disappeared from the 2013 model year line-up. Let’s take a look at the handful of the most inexpensive pickups left on the new car market.
The 2013 Toyota Tacoma comes in a couple of different body styles and offers 2 different engine choices. The base price for the basic 2.7 liter 4-cylinder 5-speed manual is $17,625 with the top of the line 4x4 Double Cab Long Box going for over $28k.
The 2013 RAM 1500 Tradesman is a great work truck. Since the Dakota has been discontinued, the Ram 1500 base model has taken its place offering a 310 horsepower V-8 engine, spay in bedliner, standard tow hitch, and a reasonable $22,640 price point.
With the demise of the Chevrolet Colorado, the most inexpensive truck now offered from Chevy is the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4.5 liter V-6 Work Truck 4x2 with the Standard Cab and a 6.5' Box costing $23,590. This is a great deal when you consider the LTZ model costs $42,935 with all the bells and whistles.

Ford continues to be the juggernaut in the pickup truck market. For 2013 there are 51 different trim levels available on the F-150. You have tons to choose from regarding cab configuration, bed size, and engine offering. The most inexpensive 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck is the XL 4x2 Regular Cab model with the 6.5' Box. The 3.7 liter V-6 engine provides some good power at 302 HP while getting 17 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway.
Nissan’s light duty truck offering (Frontier) is not available for the 2013 model year. So the most inexpensive truck being offered by Nissan is the Titan S 4x2 King Cab. With a $29,270 price, the 2013 Nissan Titan S is one of the more expensive base model trucks out there. But you do get 4 doors and a nice healthy V-8 engine.
