The Mercedes Driver Assistance Package is a safety package that is optional or standard on many of Mercedes' vehicles. Depending on the model the system usually includes DISTRONIC PLUS, Blind Spot Assist or Active Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist or Active Lane Keeping Assist, PRE-SAFE, and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS.
DISTRONIC PLUS is a radar based cruise control system that can maintain a set speed while also slowing done for traffic ahead.
Blind Spot Assist uses radar sensors to monitor the blind spot areas on both sides of the vehicle, and displays a warning on the side mirror if a vehicle is detected. If you then activate the turn signal to change lanes the system will provide an audible warning.
Lane Keeping Assist uses a camera to monitor the road and detect when the vehicle is about to leave its lane so that it can provide the driver with a warning. Active Lane Keeping Assist can additionally use the brakes to help keep you in your lane.
PRE-SAFE prepares the car for an accident by tensioning the seat belts, closing the windows and roof, and positioning the front seats. Pre-Safe also warns the driver of pedestrians.
COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS monitors the distance between your vehicle and the one in front of it. When it detects an imminent collision it warns the driver and prepares the brakes for an emergency stop.
On higher end cars the Driver Assistance Package comes with DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist, BAS PLUS (Brake Assist System PLUS) with Cross-Traffic Assist, and PRE-SAFE Brake with Pedestrian Detection.
