The Mercedes Cockpit Management and Data System, or COMAND, is a system used to manage many of the interior functions of the vehicle, including the GPS and audio units. The system integrates all of these functions seamlessly; for example, it will lower the music volume during a phone call or during navigation instructions, and it can be controlled using the main COMAND controller or using buttons on the steering wheel. The system can display information on both the COMAND display and the instrument cluster. Depending on the vehicle model, the system may control other features such as climate control and seat control, especially if the vehicle comes standard with COMAND.

COMAND Online is the newest version of the system and allows the use of the Internet with COMAND Online when paired with a mobile phone. The COMAND Online system provides traffic information using the Traffic Message Channel (TMC Pro) and also allows the download and use of apps, including parking finder and finance applications. The system can be controlled with the central controller, steering wheel controls, or via voice commands using the Linguatronic voice-activated control system.
