The i20 WRC is Hyundai's entry into the World Rally Championship (or WRC). The i20 WRC is loosely based on the Hyundai i20 supermini sold in Europe and a few other markets, but not currently available in North America. The regular i20 comes standard with a tiny 1.2l 4-cylinder engine that makes 86 HP and 89 ft-lbs of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. It takes 12.7 seconds to do the run from 0 to 60 mph, and the car can reach a top speed of 104 mph.
The i20 WRC gets an only slightly larger 1.6l 4-cylinder engine, but the addition of turbocharging increases the power to over 300 HP with around 295 ft-lbs of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed sequential transmission allowing the i20 WRC to reach 62 mph in less than 4 seconds and reach a top speed of over 124 mph. The car uses mechanical differentials in both the front and rear to get as much traction as possible when accelerating on loose surfaces, and Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers all around to stop the car. The i20 runs on 18x8 inch wheels during tarmac events and 15x7 inch wheels during gravel events.
