The Ford 2.3 EcoBoost engine is a turbocharged dual overhead cam 4-cylinder engine that will be available in the 2015 Lincoln MKC and 2015 Ford Mustang. The EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing, and turbocharging to provide excellent fuel economy while still delivering good performance. In the Lincoln preliminary testing shows 275 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque, while in the Mustang the EcoBoost should make more than 305 HP and over 300 lb-ft of torque.
The engine features an aluminum block and aluminum high-flow cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifolds connected to a twin-scroll turbocharger. Internally the EcoBoost uses a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods with floating pins, and lightweight high-strength pistons with a low-friction skirt coating. The engine also features a balance shaft, high-performance valve-seat material, and piston cooling jets for durability. The oil pan is made from die-cast aluminum to help provide structural support to the bottom of the block and is equipped with baffles to ensure oil delivery in all driving conditions.
