The BMW X3 is a compact crossover SUV powered by either a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that puts out 240 HP (xDrive28i) or a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 that pumps out 300 HP (xDrive35i). No matter which engine you choose, power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with both automatic and manual shift modes. The optional Dynamic Handling Package includes variable sport steering and Performance Control. Variable sport steering changes the steering ratio and force, depending on the driving situation, to make the vehicle both easier to maneuver when parking and more stable at high speeds. Performance Control maintains a rear-wheel biased torque split and can send more power to individual rear wheels, helping the vehicle corner, reducing both under-steer and over-steer. The system can also work with the stability control system to keep the vehicle on track without using the brakes or cutting power. Dynamic Damper Control is also available on the X3, but only as part of the M Sport package.
