What Is BMW RDS Support?

The radios in many BMW models support RDS, or the Radio Data System, communications protocol. The U.S. version of the system is called the Radio Broadcast Data System, or RBDS. The systems are used to broadcast a small amount of information along with the traditional FM broadcast. This information may include the time, station information, and program information such as genre, artist name, and song title. RDS and RBDS can also provide traffic and other information, depending on the receiver.
