BMW's Head-Up Display is a full-color HUD that displays important vehicle information directly in the driver's line of sight. The system displays data such as speed and navigation instructions in a way that minimizes distraction and eliminates the need to constantly look down to check a speedometer or GPS unit. The HUD uses a projector and a system of mirrors to project the data onto the windshield in a way that makes the images appear to be about 6 feet in front of the driver, above the hood. The system is height adjustable to account for differences in driver height and seating position. Depending on the vehicle model, the HUD can display speed, RPM, navigation instructions, speed limit info, active cruise control status, and even BMW night vision and collision warning alerts.
