    2004 Volvo S40 - LSE A SR ( for consumer ordering)

Pros: Beautiful car with unique styling that stands out among parking lots of Toyotas, Hondas, VWs, and Nissans.

Cons: I do wish they offered a stick shift in the '04 model; that has been added to the 2004.5 lineup.

    Advice: Buy it!

Unlike Sykesville MD writer who was ashamed to include his name (is he a VW saleman or what?), I love everything about my '04 Volvo S40 LSE and I actually traded a '99 VW Jetta GLS VR6 for the Volvo. The VR6 might have a slight edge 0-60 but my S40 could run circles around a Jetta in curves or on a track like Laguna Seca. And on the highway the 5 speed automatic purrs along a low rpm getting great mpg (unlike a Jetta) until you need the power and step on it - then the turbo starts whistling and it takes off like a bat out of *%#$. The Volvo has been trouble-free, dealer service is better than my experiences with VW, Mitsubishi and Mercedes-Benz and unlike so many cookie-cutter brands I can actually find my car in the mall parking lot without mistaking it for dozens of cars just like (VW Jetta).

    2003 Volvo S60 - 2.4T A FWD

    Pros: seats

Cons: mechanicals and exhaust tone (sounds like a buzz saw at times)

Advice: really look at what you are considering buying. Demand to have one for the weekend!!

Have had my car just under 6000 miles and I am very unhappy. It has had numerous transmission issues, mostly just very jerky when it shifts in the low gears. Get it going and its great. A/C motor grunts and clatters when it comes on and steeing never seems to be in line. Meeting with Volvo tomorrow to see what we can do about this. Of course, the dealer says this is all normal!!

    2003 Volvo S60 - T5 M FWD

    Pros: Super quick engine

    Cons: Nothing

Advice: Wait for good lease deals

One of the best looking cars on the road. Looks like a hatchback but its a saloon. Should have a rear wiper because of shape of back window. The T5 is real fast and extremely comfortable. Maybe not a BMW 330 in absolute sports driving terms but better looking, and more value for the money. And best of all not as many on the road. Sound system is incredible and better than some of the branded systems in other cars. BOSE watch out! Back leg room is inadequate for adults but just fine for kids. Quality is what one would expect from a Scandanavian company. It's great...not a single, even minor problem in first six months. Better ride, comfort and quality than the last German car I owned.

    2003 Volvo S60 - AWD

Pros: Automatic Sound Control (ASC) on radio

    Cons: Rain Sensing wipers

Advice: This vehicle hardly gets the credit it deserves. Well worth the test drive.

I leased this vehicle sight unseen as my employer arranged the deal for my use in business (I work out of my car and home). I have been very pleased with the S60's road manners and comfort. All my driving is highway, and it provides an excellent environment for highway cruising with superb sound system and quiet cabin, not to mention the everstanding safety Volvo is based on. I have the automatic 2.4 and it has plenty of power to get up and pass when needed. Over 1000 miles and very happy. I also like the fact there isn't one in everyone's driveway.

    2003 Volvo S60 - AWD

    Pros: Styling and appearance

Cons: Position of cruise control button on steering wheel

    Advice: Go for the turbo

The S60 AWD is great drive. Surprising power and pickup of the turbo. No problems merging into traffic on the freeways. It took a little while to get used to the large head rests, especially on the rear seats - these plus the side panel slightly block side view when looking to change lanes. Personally I thought that they could have put the cruise control activate button somewhere else, as it is placed where I normally hold the steering wheel and have accidentally deactivated the cruise control several times. It is a beautiful car - very happy with it. Purchased in July 2002.
