Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: the car has a great appearence
Cons: tons of service problems, is in the shop almost every two weeks.
Advice: DO NOT buy this car. Every Volvo from 2000 until the present sucks. This car drives great when it is not being serviced at the dealership. It's been in the dealership hundreds of time since it was bought for every kind of weird problem you can imagine. Once, a wheel bearing fell off while the car was turning onto a major highway. Volvo is definitely not what it used to be. It's high-priced and low-quality.
Pros: Looks great
Cons: sun reflection on front window. Flashing alarm light @ night. SERVICE PROBLEMS GALORE
Advice: Dont Buy it. Too many service problemsRough ride in the city. Great on the hi-ways. Too many service problems. Fans that don't work, Incompatant Service @ the local dealership: Royal Motors SF
Pros: Responsive sport car feel to sedan. Safety elements of design and construction.
Cons: Slight turbo lag @ low speed
Advice: ComfortablePurchased the '04 S80 AWD (2.5 Ltr. 5 cyl turbo)four months and 7000 miles ago. Fit and finish are very good. Quiet interior. Drove 500 miles streight and the seats are excellent. Very comfortable for four adults. Wider passinger space then other cars I test drove. Car handles well and the AWD has noticably improved tracking in wet and sandy areas. (Can't wait for winter!) Highly recommend the Bi-Xenon head lights and reverse sensors. Nice trunk space, especially with rear seats folded forward.
Pros: Comfort. Huge front seats.
Cons: Tire noise.
Advice: The car is great, the service is the issue. Check your DEALERS reputation before you buy. I'm stuck with only 2 in my area. Neither is worth my trust anymore.Volvo has chased us away. We have three Volvos; a 240; 940 and S80. Over the last ten years, EVERY service or repair we have had at the dealer has had to be taken back and redone. The latest was failing to tighten the lug nuts on a tire rotation (lost 2, the rest were loose). Talk about putting you customer in danger. Anyway, we LOVE the cars, but we can’t get service in or area, so we are looking to other manufactures. If you are looking at a Volvo, remember it’s hard to get them serviced at other locations in lieu of the dealer, so watch out.
Pros: The CD player
Cons: Panel fit and paint job
Advice: Don't do itThe s80 has a couple of annoying faults including speed control that is off axis and noisy tires. I am disappointed. I does look great but its overall quality including electricals and panel fit is poor.
Pros: Manumatic Shifting and Comfortable Seating
Cons: The Headrests are akward
Advice: Overall, very nice vehicle.Excelent overall vehicle. My only copmplaint so far is the slightly akward rear headrests. However, no other comliants at all!
Pros: I like the heated leather seats.
Cons: The terrible wood trim and the vinyl inside the car.
Advice: I recomment you do not get the 2.9, but get the T-6. That was my mistake.I recently purchased a new Volvo 2.9 and I must say that I am not pleased at all. Volvo did not live up to be the luxury car that I wanted. However, the car makes almost no sounds at all. The volvo also rides very smoothly, but is very agitating with the low horse power. The car does not even go to 0-60 mph in 8 seconds and is very slow. Also the inside of the car is also not so pleasing. The wood trim is not good at all and the vinyl in the car is terrible. I hope the Volvo Corporation will read this and make the proper adjustments.
