Will Be Taking Part In This Year's V8 Supercars Race Series In Australia
What comes to your mind when someone says "Racing with V8 engines?" Most likely NASCAR, but there is another race series that uses V8 engines only. The series in question is the V8 Supercars series down in Australia. Vehicles such as the Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, and Nissan Altima battle it out over a number of races to see which one can say their the best. Now a new manufacturer is joining the fray.
Volvo revealed their S60 racecar that will be taking part in this season of V8 Supercars. The racecar will use a modified version of the 4.4L V8 engine co-developed with Yamaha that was used in the XC90 crossover and S80 sedan. The engine's displacement has been increased to 5.0L and produces 650 horsepower. Power flows to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission. Other components such as the chassis, transaxle, and rear suspension receive identical race-spec treatment.
To unveil their contender, Volvo and its racing partner, Polestar, took the S60 across the Sydney Harbor Bridge with a police escort. You have to admit, that's a pretty impressive way to show off a new race car.
