2014 Volkswagen Touareg TDI R-Line Test Drive & Diesel SUV Video Review

Enhancing Volkswagen’s Touareg SUV for the 2014 model year is the company’s sporty R-Line trim package. You’ll recognize the 2014 Touareg R-Line by its 20-inch wheels, aerodynamic body kit, slightly lowered sport tuned suspension, and its LED taillights. While it might seem odd to add these sporty touches to a diesel powered automobile, in the case of the Touareg it fits because this diesel is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 boasting a remarkable 406 ft-lbs of torque. The 240-horsepower engine is teamed with an eight speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. What’s more, it returns some 20 miles per gallon in the city, 29 on the highway, and 23 combined. A properly equipped Touareg will also tow up to 7,000 pounds. But wait, there’s more. Available for your comfort and convenience are xenon headlights and LED running lights, in addition to a heated steering wheel, exterior mirrors, and seats. The IIHS rates the VW SUV as “Good” (its top ranking) in all crash tests, though the Touareg has yet to undergo the institute’s new small-overlap frontal-offset test.
