Pros: Rating as preferred mid size car
Cons: Acceleration problems
Advice: Watch for acceleration problemsTest drive was fine, then experienced problems with acceleration which dealer 'cannot fix'
Pros: The ride.
Cons: In Dash CD player skipps more than it should
Advice: Don't drive it unless you are willing to buy it.After looking at other wagons on the market, the Passat was the far more fun to drive. Better corning, smoother and more powerful engine and a quiet ride combine to do better than the Subaru or the Volvo. After driving the various brands, there was not contest. This car is basically a poor-mans Audi A6. Preferred the V6. It is quieter and has better low end torque over the 1.8T. If you want leather, a V6 and a sunroof, get the GLX. It is a small cost difference over the GLS but has all the other toys.
Pros: The feel of the wheel when I'm driving.
Cons: Couldn't get a six. Next year. :-)
Advice: Handling, economy, and styling as well as the overall feel of this car make it a smart buy!Great, tight, handeling on this sporty vehicle! Awesome, and very agile. Can't say enough...
Pros: Convenience and safety
Cons: Gas mileage is less than expected
Advice: Compare with the Merecedes before buying VW; don't let the claimed shortage cause you to pay 2much.After our Volvo dealer gave us a 3k repair estimate we took our wallet for a test drive. My wife was immediately sold on the 2003 GLX wagon's 190 hp V6 acceleration, handling and brakes. I was less impressed with the lag from a dead stop, but agreed that it was otherwise a great car. The day after purchase, we took it on a 1200 mile vacation to San Diego. Empty road on I-5 tempted the speedo needle to register somewhat over 60 mph at times, and performance was excellent. I prefer the immediate acceleration and heavier feel of the Merecedes 320 wagon - but my wife got her choice. I conceded that the same priced Merecedes 2series wagon was less powerful and had fewer conveniences and good looks. But, for the 8k difference between the slightly better M320, I am glad my wife's choice is what we brought home. Mileage is lower than expected. The drive was actually pleasurable and not nearly the chore it was in the Volvo.
Pros: overall appearance and the blue dashboard
Cons: could use more cupholders and storage space
Advice: definitely get the luxury package-(the moonroof and alloy wheels)The 1.8T affords more than adequate power for the everyday driver. The ride on the highway is exceptionally smooth and relatively quiet. One can carry on a conversation without having to shout. It handles bumps and curves quite impressively, with very little body lean. The Tiptronic system is like a 'stick-shift for dummies'....it's great.
Pros: the way it handles
Cons: no esp and xenon lights
Advice: test drive audi then compareget the 4-motion,glx wagon and savebig against audi a-4 avant. you won't be disappointed.
Pros: The dashboard lights - awesome!
Cons: Could not get 17' wheels
Advice: Drive it at night and never say neverWhen my husband and I started looking for a new car or SUV we had no idea how many new and different models there were. After test driving 30+ cars we stopped by Volkswagen, as my husband insisted. I had no intentions of buying a VW but went along to satisfy him. After driving the Passat our other choices were but a distant memory and we purchased the Passat. I love the car and am so glad my husband insisted we test one!
