2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLX (M5) FWD Sedan

    Pros: Monsoon stereo system

Cons: ac not adequate for florida's climate

Advice: Look at the Jaguar,Infiniti and lexus

This vehicle is overrated!I own A GLX acceleration is good(must use premium gas)and handling is acceptable. The weaknesses are poor build quality and noisy interior. Build quality issues:6 trips to 3 different dealers before the a/c was fixed(still adequate at best), a damaged headliner and 4 headlights in first 20,000 miles.More importantly the dealerships and corprate office DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER!

2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLX (M5) FWD Wagon

    Pros: Monsoon Stereo.

Cons: 4 motion option is only available on loaded models.

    Advice: Get the sunroof

Great wagon! I also have a '98 with 76,000 miles. Very few problems. Lots of room for people and cargo. Fun to drive and comfortable.

2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLX (M5) FWD Sedan

Pros: 4 Motion all wheel drive.

Cons: It only gets about 25mpg average.

Advice: Don't let the car's price scare you into buying a lesser car. It is worth it.

One year and 15,000 miles later, this car is still a winner. Whether on icy roads or 6 inches of snow, the car hasn't gotten stuck yet! Overall performance is quite good. We ruled out the Honda Accord early because its price was only a few thousand less, yet its fit and finish couldn't compare. The Audi A4 was quite a bit more expensive yet didn't offer that much more. For its price, the Volvo couldn't even compete. Our 4 Motion turned out to be the perfect car for us. It has performed flawlessly!

2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLX (M5) FWD Sedan

Pros: Speedtronic and the heated seats - just love them.

Cons: Memory seats work great, but a little difficult to set it up initially.

Advice: Shop around a couple of dealers - you can save some money.

This car is wonderful. I was used to drive Japanese cars (Mazda, Toyota), which I always loved because of their performance. I looked into purchasing a new car. I compared the Passat with Volvo's S60, BMW's 3 Series, and the Lexus IS 300. There was no comparison, for the price, performance and interior room the Passat was the overall winner. My other car is an SUV, and my wife and I always prefer to drive the Passat. I can't explain in words how much fun this car is. Simply put.... an unbelievable value and a fun car to drive. F U N

2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLS (M5) FWD Sedan

    Pros: Tiptronic

Cons: Continental Tires; ignition coil problems

    Advice: Be prepared for problems

This is my 2nd Passat. My 1st one was stolen. Initially the car was fine but has been towed 4 times since August '01 (2002 Model w/ less than 18,000 mi.) 3 times due to ignition coil problems and 1 time because the alternator failed! It also seems to have a probelm with acceleration. I take a chance every time I enter traffic from a standstill -the engine spins but the car goes nowhere. I love the interior and the solid build. Good road car and cool dashboard. Doesn't scream cheap like its American counterparts. Too bad service stinks and ignition coils are a problems. I would have had a fit if the car did not have such a good warranty.

2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLS (M5) FWD Sedan

Pros: cool interiors, fun to drive, sporty, good build, lots of safety features

Cons: ignition problems and other faults

Advice: DONT GO FOR A PASSAT...STAY AWAY

Fun to drive but too many problems. Lots of complaints due to the ignition coils, faulty electrical system, horrible Monsoon sterio which dies on you frequently, bad defroster, confusing controls and horrible sales and service.I wouldnt recommend this car to anyone. Most people think by buying a VW they are buying a German mini version of BMW or Merc. I too is a victim of this thought and Iam stuck with a lemon of a Passat GLS which I bought 4 months back. Benn to the dealer a couple of times already.

2002 Volkswagen Passat - GLS (M5) FWD Wagon

    Pros: Fun to drive

Cons: Could be a little larger for a wagon.

Advice: Beware. Had to be towed in at 10,600 miles . Two engine coils failed [out of 4]. Only willing to replace 2 out of 4. Possible 8-10 week wait for repair. Coils 'unavailable' even in Germany. Should be a recall on these cars. Seems to be a common problem.

Drives very nice. Tight, good handling.
