Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Overall comfort and predictability
Cons: The steering wheel shakes a little bit on high speeds
Advice: Get it if you enjoy driving. You won't understand this car if you expect to have a family slow-motion SUV to go to Home Depot. The way it drives is really different from American cars.
I love this car. I do not drive on rural roads full of snow, but I like how the car behaves during poor weather conditions. It is glued to the road, you feel really comfortable driving it because you understand what it's going to do next, how it's going to react when you turn the wheel or press gas pedal. No surprises. And it’s pretty responsive and speedy two when you kick it. Note that you get a real SUV that is not afraid of two feet of snow, and it’s unbelievably comfortable – as if you are driving a luxury sedan.Pros: V8 engine
Cons: service and maintenance
Advice: Do Not even Think about buying this vehicle
Worst vehicle ever made 1.poor tire tread life, 15,000 miles, 2. Tire pressure readings constantly signals flat tire 3. worst service of any manufacturer 4. 4WD failed at 20,650 miles and never been offroad 5. A/C whistles cant fix 6. EPA gas mileage is high as we get 12-14 mpg 7. very expensive oil and filter changes 8. VW technicians do not know how to fix 1/3 of problems on this car 9. VW will take you to rental car store while the Toureg you paid for is in shop. WOW!Pros: sound system
Cons: poor
Advice: don't buy it. the station wagon with 4w drive is just as roomy and better!
Too many things that one does not really need e.g., no real need for off road technology when it is used mainly for city and recreational use. The computer is very confusing. Front window fogs up when air conditioner os on. Air bag malfunction lights up and no one can find the reason for it. Visibility for back up is poor and read side windows is poor. The large side mirrors also afects vision. Overhead rack locking system is very inconvenient and difficult to open.Pros: none
Cons: Not being able to drive it.
Advice: Do not buy a VW. Horrible experience.
I purchased a 2006 V6 Touareg on Jan 4, 2006 after driving a 2004 Touareg for 2.5 years. The vehicle has been in the repair shop 23 of the 40 days I've owned it. Please do yourself a favor and don't purchase this vehicle. Dealings with VW Customer Care and the arbitration department are akin to K's struggle at The Castle.Pros: Sport Mode on the Tiptronic Transmission, Extremely luxurious, BMW / Mercedes Beater!,Excellent acceleration
Cons: Gas Consumption
Advice: Don't be scarred of 2004 Touareg reviews - everything is outstanding now!
I purchased my VW Touareg V8 after doing a lot of research and testing all the competitors (MB ML 350, Landrover LR3, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 V8). The Touareg impressed me the most with the excellent handling (you can do 60mph round a tight bend and feel totally in control), excellent handling, superb V8 engine, lots of cool technology and excellent VW customer service - Of late, VW have taken a real hit with the customer service, but they must have learned, because the service I received was exemplary. I only have 600 miles on the clock, but it must be said that the VW drives like a dream. My only minor complaint would be the use of too much technology - The front and rear sensors are excellent, but can cause nervousness at times, as they go off even when you are 3ft away from an object! The only other thing would be the gas mileage, which is actually better than the XC 90 V8.Pros: comfort
Cons: quality
Advice: everything
God help whoever spends this money for this suv. I have a 2004 V8 - numerous electrical problems, tires that cost $1200+ for four and VW service that sucks. I'm stuck with a vehical that cost way too much for the problems I've had and the service I receive. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!Pros: Comfort
Cons: MPG
Advice: Lease before you buy
Have had this vehicle 4 months and love the comfort and drivability. It's solid, safe and carries a hefty load as well as having a fine sound system. (Loaded 100, 13 pound blocks in the rear and never knew it as we drove down the road.) I have a problem with the air bag alert coming on but it takes a download fix I have been in for once already. Need to go in again. I recommend leasing before you buy. Pretty complicated compared to many other SUVs.
