Pros: Fun to drive
Cons: Gas milageLike the German engineering. Has a lot of nice features, and enough engine, and suspension to be a little fun to drive. Nice and solid. Feels well made.
Pros: The quality feel of the interior
Cons: The lack of horsepower
Advice: If you don't need a race car, but something you can live with every day, BUY IT!I'm a huge VW fan, and when it came time to downsize my life, (and my car payments) I had to look at their 'econobox'. Although the Rabbit nameplate is gone for 2010, the 2009 Rabbit/Golf shows a level of refinement, fit & finish, and pure driving pleasure lacking in all other cars in this price segment. It almost drives too well to be considered an economy car. When it comes to pure all-around driving competence and pleasure, you simply can't beat these little VW's.
Pros: The touch screen stereo system with complimentary XM Radio for 6 months
Cons: There are no dislikes
Advice: By this car from a VW dealer the last day of the month to get the best dealI purchased the 2010 GTI with the DSG transmission and 18' rims in early October of '09. This was the first car I've purchased that I actually waited for based on all the reviews read prior to its unveiling. And it was certainly worth it. It has go-cart handling much like the Mini-Cooper S, but with a distinctive German road handling feel to it. The interior design is elegant and understated with the leather package. I did purchase a few extras like heated seats and the upgraded stereo system which pushed the price to 30K. I didn't pay that, but expect this 'niche' vehicle to be a little more than the price projected here. You will love this car.
Pros: The quality is fantastic for the price.
Cons: Limited storage areas in the cabin
Advice: Buy one now!I just bought the Golf 3 days ago, and haven't actually driven it much, so these are my first impressions. It's a blast! The engine is powerful and quiet (but not broken in yet, so I've been sort of easy on it), the handling is very good (new tires, not taking it to the limit yet), considering it's fairly soft suspension, with nice feedback from the steering wheel. It doesn't have any numbness common to assisted systems. The shifter is sweet. Considering that this is an $18,000 car (including destination charge) I am beyond impressed. I could go on and on about the great features- quick and really solid, fantastic Recaro style seats that hug me perfectly (adjustable lumbar support on both sides) with very nice fabric, the smooth quiet ride with very good handling, the feeling of complete stability at 100+ speeds. It's got the interior of a much more expensive vehicle. And personally I think the exterior is very attractive, while the hatch makes it really versatile. Try it, you'll like it. Good job VW!
Pros: feels very roomy and safe.
Cons: small center console, monsoon radio system.
Advice: its a great car, it was my first car!i love this car! true some things may be a little small, but in all honestly you get used to it quick. the back seats are actually quite roomy (maybe not for large adults), but my friends can sit very comfortably. The turning and brakes work VERY well. There is a lot of bang for your buck! It is also wonderful that you can fold down the back seats, making it almost like a little truck. I even helped my best friend move! Wonderful car!
Advice: make sure that it fits your needsmy gti has a automatic 6 speed transmission and it took a little getting used to. the automatic shifts very quickly even when going slow, but it performs better than any american sports car i've had mustangs, firebirds, etc. because it was a two-door hatchback i had to test the 'roomy-ness' and had 4 250+ pound people get in the front and back seats, they all said that it was better than 4 door civics and even nissan sentras. overall though, i have not one regret to getting this fine german automoblie and will be returning to volkswagen for future purchases.
Cons: stiff ride, i need to get used to that
Advice: get a black onei bought a 2008 and i am not regretting it; everyone said i was crazy & that the GTI is too small - i was shocked how plush the interior is, and it is a ton roomier than i thought it would be. car is quick off of the line, and has great handling with the optional 18' wheels. my dealer is a let down, as i seem to have more knowledge about the car from internet research than the salesman does!
