    2003 Toyota Matrix - Standard (M5) FWD

Pros: Out side appearance, the dashboard lights and the 6 cd radio/stereo.

Cons: Traction in snow was terrible. Problem with car or tires unknown. Tires also expensive to replace.

Advice: Test drive in snow, if you are in the snow belt, and also note tire prices to replace.

Test drive was nice. It was taken, however, in February and it was not snowing.

    2004 Toyota Matrix - Standard (M5) FWD

Pros: The versatility of this as a passenger vehicle and as a transport vehicle.

Cons: The console between the seats is not conveniently designed. It's an awkward reach.

Advice: Make sure you are okay with the rear visibility because of the vehicle design.

I like its economy and maneuverability. While its looks first attracted me the convenience of a 4 door 'hatchback' was the selling point for me. I like to take my friends around but still have all that space for large loads.

    2004 Toyota Matrix - XR (M5) FWD

Pros: Drives well, storage capacity, style

Cons: The steering wheel takes some getting used to. It seems the pedals are closer than the steering wheel.

Advice: Do not shop at Maroone in Weston, Florida!

I love my new Matrix! I hated the buying process, but I love the end result.

    2004 Toyota Matrix - XRS (M6) FWD

Pros: In dash 6 disc changer

Cons: $500.00 option for auto dimming mirror with compass & no nav system option for TX

Advice: Drive & compare the base model, XR and XRS

I just purchased a cosmic blue 2004 XRS a week ago. I am pleased with the performance. I was driving an Explorer so I find the rear visibility a bit challenging but its not bad once you get used to it. Overall great car...fun to drive, easy on gas and hauls a lot of stuff with the seats down. Really great for around town and short road trips.

    2003 Toyota Matrix - XRS (M6) FWD

Pros: I love the 2ZZ-GE engine in the XRS.

Cons: I wish the front end didn't hang so low. I keep scraping the front.

Advice: I would advise going to sites like Autobytel and doing research on whatever car you decide to get.

You can't find another car that is this versatile and good looking for the price. I have already moved apartments twice this year and I can't imagine doing it without my Matrix. I even moved a full-sized bed in my Matrix (this was a separate trip, of course). If you can afford it, I would suggest getting the XRS. There's nothing like the feeling of the 'lift' kicking in at 6200 rpm. Also, the XRS has more standard features that are optional on the other models like ABS brakes, fog lights, and 4-wheel disc brakes.

    2004 Toyota Matrix - Standard (M5) FWD

    Pros: all the storage compartments

    Cons: Rear visibility

Advice: Its a great small station wagon for anyone who dosen't want to drive a larger vehicle

I just got my new Cosmic Metallic Blue Matrix 2 days ago. (nice color) So far I really like it. I read other reviews about the matrix, and I have found that the red instrument lighting is not a problem. I like the seating you sit up higher so you can see better. The only thing I don't like is that I find it hard to reach the buttons on the radio. I traded in my corolla and find the matrix drives just like it. So far I am very happy and would recommend it!

    2004 Toyota Matrix - XR (M5) FWD

    Pros: the suspension

Cons: driver's seat positioning was inadequate

Advice: make sure that you can find a good seat position, i could not

My previous car was a typically reliable Toyota, so i decided to test the Matrix even though i don't really like the exterior styling which appears strangely unbalanced to me. The first dealer i went to had a row of 20 Matrix models and not a single one had a manual transmission, which i insist on. So i went to another dealer and drove one. I remember that it felt powerful and responsive, and was manuverable. However, i could not find a comfortable driving position. If i was far enough from the wheel and pedals, i had to literally stretch to reach the gearshift. If i moved the seat forward one notch from there, my knees hit the steering column. After that realization, the Matrix was no longer a consideration. The interior materials also seemed rather cheap and if i recall correctly it was only available with a black interior, and in Florida that is not good as i can personally affirm. In summary, i find the car to be ugly on the outside, cheap on the inside, and uncomfortable to drive.
