Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Reliable, good fuel economy, roomy, sensible.
Pros: the gas mileage-- about 40-42 on the interstate
Cons: the road noise
Advice: definitely get one unless you want to move up to the corolla or camry
very quiet engine, handles great, definitely scoots along the road, I also like the speedometer being in the middle of the dash instead of behind the steering wheel... I don't have to move my hand to see how fast I am going. LOTS OF HEADROOM! Also a lot of room for all four passangers.Pros: Off center speedometer so I don't have to look through the steering wheel.
Cons: The fact that I have to sell it to make room for the new baby.
Advice: Shop around and be patient. The dealers don't keep many of them on hand.
Mine is actually a 2000 model, and I have loved it for five years. Never had even minor trouble with it. Third kid is on the way, and it's breaking my heart that we really won't all fit in it anymore.Pros: Roomy
Cons: A little shaky in the wind.
Advice: Great car for the gas mileage.
Impressed with the quietness of the car. Only have had the vehicle for a short while but haven't noticed anything negative about it!Pros: The top/center mounted gauges
Cons: The drivers seat isnt very comfy for me on longer trips
Advice: Better use the internet to find one
I drove several before buying one, and couldnt believe how much QUIETER the Echo's were compared to my previous Sunbird. Also drove numerous Ford Focus and Chevy Cavalier cars at work, typical NOISY American made 4 bangers. The ECHO has plenty of power for its weight, and the tranny shifts smoothly, unlike all the GM's I used to own. Gas mileage has been great, 35 mpg city/40 highway.Pros: the excellent visibility
Cons: the color...white was the only color the dealer had. Did not want to order another car
Advice: If you are looking for a maneuverable, economical, but FUN auto, the Echo is it!
I didn't have much time to test drive my Echo, but the mileage alone was what I based my purchase decision on. After I had it for a couple of days, though I realized that I purchased not only an economical, but also a very fun handling little car with EXCELLENT visibility. Unlike some reviewers, I appreciate the 'high' seats! The evening after I purchased my Echo, I had to drive in a heavy downpour. The high seats, combined with the large (for a small car) windshield, and the downward slope of the side windows made it very easy to watch the center line, even though the rain limited forward visibility dramatically.Pros: Comfortable
Cons: Other people's low opinion of this car. Echo is vastly underrated. !!
Advice: Get 4-door sedan rather than the 2-door; and with the larger 15-inch wheels.
Good performance for such a tiny motor !! Has no trouble keeping up with freeway traffic. Lots of headroom ( I'm 6-foot 1' ) Amazingly quiet for such a budget car. I like the fact that it weighs only about 2000 lbs. Compare that with anybody else's car; including Focus, Hyundai, etc. I bought this car 9 months ago and have no regrets. Totally trouble-free so far. Avg. 33 MPG ( mixed city and freeway driving.) Not quite the fuel economy of a Prius --- but lots cheaper!! 14K vs. 21K The powertrain is same as the Scion Xa and Xb, but the Echo is a couple hundred pounds lighter.
