Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The low profile seating as if its a high cost sports car, and the fact the gear shift, (being I have a 5 speed) is so convenient and right at arms length.
Cons: There is a very open void on the front grill area. Mitsubishi should have made a protective grill area there. A rock from the road penetrated the radiator on my car due to the lack of that. Cost me about $300.
Advice: Think twice if you do alot of winter/snow driving
This is my second Eclipse. I do have to say that it cant compare to my '98 I had as far as the styling is concerned. I liked the more 'squashed' look from the models prior to the newer change that came I think in 2000. This car is not for winter and snow driving. I tend to leave it home when the weather here up north gets bad. I had too many spin outs with this car. But with nice weather driving, you cant beat this car. Ive driven my brothers Corvette, and other than the obvious lack of power compared to that car, it compares almost the same, in my opinion. I had grafic details done on the car,put on Euro rear lens, and it really stands out in the croud. The 2006's are going to be awesome however. I saw pictures and I swear, this upcoming car is going to look like something from the future! Maybe time for trading it in?? Who knows.Pros: Body style and design
Cons: poor rear visibility
Advice: Great car! not a family car though!
This is a great car! I test drove one after driving a Ford Mustang, Pontiac Grand Am, and Toyota Celica. I owned a 1991 Eagle Talon, which had a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. The 6 cylinder engine in this model has more horsepower than that car did, without a turbo. The only flaw that I can think of is that its hard to see out of when trying to change lanes, or merging on the freeway, you have to adjust the mirrors exactly right to see! I found that putting a small concave mirror on the side mirrors helps a lot! Great sound system, great handling, great acceleration, but only made for 2 people comfortably.Pros: Good options for the price
Cons: No turbo
Advice: try the 4 cyl. it's more peppy than you think
Awesome drive. This car takes all the best parts of the generation 2 and improves them. The wider stance is amazing. I bought the 4 cyl. and it's amazingly quick. All the options are nice, Sun and sound package a definate plus. I like this one so much I might buy another mitsubishi.Pros: From the Sun & Sound pkg: Infinity Stereo w/ 7 Speakers, great for any type of music!
Cons: Getting in and out, although it IS a sports car.
Advice: Two people in the car, fine. remember it's a sports car, not a family car, so you can't totally complain about rear seating comfort. they don't complain about uncomfortable back seats in a porsche do they?
Handling is great, comfort when driving over awkward terrain such as railroads, or dirt paths is superb. pickup is quite nice, sportronic shifter is a must! enjoy day to day automatic - or just bust out once in a while, play with the shifter around the turns: show them what you've got!Pros: Body Style/Color, Performance
Cons: Plastic appointments on the interior
Advice: Definitely get the V-6 if you can afford it. It's worth the extra penny.
I bought the V-6, 5-speed GTS model, in Ultra Red Pearl. This is an awesome car... it handles well, and performs better than most others I looked at before purchasing this one. I am a big guy, and I feel a little cramped in the car from time to time, but other than that, I love it.Pros: Perfect match of the 5 speed manual to the V6
Cons: Little headroom in the back seat
Advice: Be aware of lack of rear headroom in this car
I test drove both the GT and GTS versions. I enjoyed the sportmatic transmission in the GTS, but just fell in love with the 5 speed manual in the GT. As far as the match between the manual transmission and the V6 engine, it doesn't get much better at this price.Pros: Leaving Honda Civics in my dust
Cons: Plastic Trim
Advice: Dont buy on impulse shop around Try to get your own finance that puts you in a stronge position to bargin
I went into my Mitsubishi dealer to buy an suv,I came away with an Eclips GT,What the hell happend,I obviously test drove the car and loved it I particually liked the dash layout and the sports tronic gears (on the auto)Over all I guess Im pleased with the vehicle although I am a bit of a impulsive buyer I wish that i had shopped around because a few days later I saw my first Nissan 350Z wow now thats a sports car admitedly a few more bucks...but alot more bang,I gotta have one of these cars so much so im trading my eclips in for one..........The Eclips is a nice car for the money and apart from a few small things like the plastic being alittle on the cheap side it scuffs really eaisly,oh yeah and although the rear spoiler looks good you cant see a damn thing in your rear view....but apart from that i would have kept my Eclips for a few years.....But it aint no Z350
