    2005 Mercury Mariner - Convenience (300A) 4x4

    Pros: Design

    Cons: seat width

    Advice: Worth the test drive

I'm a big guy and needed a car with headroom. This one fits the bill. Love the exterior design and roominess of the interior. Front seats are a bit narrow, but comfortable overall. CD stereo is excellent for a base vehicle. Nice list of standard features. Four cylinder is peppy and gets decent mileage (avg. 23-24 combined driving). Low insurance premium rates a plus. Worth the test drive!

    2005 Mercury Mariner - Premier (130A) FWD

    Pros: Two-tone black/grey interior; wood-grain trim

    Cons: not enough HP!

Advice: Test drive one; you'll really enjoy it; it's a comfortable ride!

I test drove three different SUVs, and the Luxury/Premier package of the Mariner is great. It's heads and tails above the Ford Escape. The quality of the interior compared to other SUVs in the same price range is much better. My wife was very suprised and pleased when I drove this in our driveway and handed her the keys!

    2005 Mercury Mariner - Premier (330A) 4x4

    Pros: Ride and handling

    Cons: Gas mileage

Advice: Buy but not at the sticker price

We purchased the Premier version of the Mariner after looking at the Jeep Liberty and Hyundai Santa Fe. With rebates and dealer discount, it was a great buy. For the first 6 months it has been a good vehicle, very comfortable ride, good power for cruising the interstate or passing and handles very well on our back country roads. The small gas tank and mediocre gas mileage (about 20 mpg average) means frequent stops to refuel.

    2003 Mercury Mountaineer - 4.0L V6 Luxury (110A) 4x2

    Pros: Durability

    Cons: cloth seats

Advice: I would chose leather seats rather than cloth in the future.

My two youngs sons & myself were in a serious car accident this week in our 2003 Mountaineer after being broadsided by another vehicle. We rolled over three times & landed on the driver's side. I came out with only a slight concussion and both my boys came out without a scratch. Unfortunately, our Mercury Mountaineer cannot be salvaged, but I feel that it saved us from serious injury. I definitely give 'two thumbs up' for this SUV!

    2005 Mercury Mariner - Premier (130A) FWD

Pros: Gar mileage, interior, heated seats.

Cons: Lot of angles to wax

    Advice: Don't pass this up!

We dumped a 2005 Chevy Equinox with 6000 miles and purchased a Mariner. (see my Equinox review) Having been a GM fan for years, I finally went and looked at the Mercury Mariner Premier. This auto is engineered far better that the Chevy Equinox, as well as many others. We chose the Premier model with all leather seats. The driver's info center is nice, indicating miles until empty, economy, trip mileage, etc. Stereo is very nice, speakers pure. Not quite the second row leg room that the Equinox has, but still adequate for my two six foot boys. The far back is a convenient size, with the option to only open the window half, or lift the entire hatch. Very handy with groceries. The visibility from the driver's seat is excellent. Both front seats are heated. Still nowhere to put a purse between the seats, but the wife gets used to it. We opted not to get the AWD vehicle for better gas mileage. The gas mileage between the four cylinder and 6 cylinder weren't very far apart, so we went with the six, which provides good acceleration. Motor noise is slightly loud when leaving the stop sign, but not a deal breaker. Much quieter once underway. The outside is cute, with the front end being very stylish including the fog lights. So far our gas mileage has been about 18.5 in town, 24 highway. Invoice said 20 and 25, so I'm ok with what we've had so far. The inside of this vehicle is much more plush than the Chevy Equinox. Compared to other vehicles, it's very nice. Moonroof is nice, tight and quiet. If you're looking for a vehicle in this class, don't overlook the Mercury Mariner. Want a little nicer? Get the Premier.

    2005 Mercury Mariner - Luxury (120A) FWD

Pros: I love the front view of the car.

Cons: No inside locks for the gas lid.

Advice: Great car for the price. Must get the V6.

We were shopping for a car for my girlfriend. We test drove the 2.3 and 3.0 liter. My girlfriend decided on the 3.0 liter because of the higher horsepower. We got all black leather seats, 6-disc C/D player, and running boards. It's a beautiful car, but I think it could use a little more horsepower.
