    2002 Mazda Tribute - ES V6 (A4) FWD

    Pros: Engine

Cons: Location of ignition & the column shift lever is in the way of radio controls

Advice: Get all the extra features that you would need--worth the extra money

Barely pressed on the accelerator & boy did it take off--zoom,zoom,zoom!! Really caught me by surprise for a small SUV with a V6. Especially since I was used to driving an Infiniti I30 and basically had resigned myself to whatever I would test drive in a V6 category would not compare. This vehicle really lived up to the comparison.

    2002 Mazda Tribute - LX V6 (A4) FWD

    Pros: The speedy acceleration

Cons: The placement of the ignition

    Advice: Go Test Drive it

I was very surprised with the acceleration of this vehicle. Most SUV's I had driven had not shown so much get-up-and-go. I was very impressed, I bought an LX 2WD with the audio package. Aside from the excellent acceleration, the 6 cd changer and speakers sound wonderful. The seats are very comfortable and the view from the drivers seat in open. I think it is also one of the best looking SUV's on the market today. I was also very impressed by the price tag, I got everything I wanted for just about 20K, comparable models (i.e. Rav4, CR-V) had smaller engines and less features for higher price tags. Overall, I am very impressed and would definitely suggest this vehicle to anyone in the SUV market.

    2002 Mazda Tribute - ES V6 (A4) 4x4

    Pros: Handling and roomy interior.

Cons: The gear shift on the steering column seems a bit dated.

Advice: If you want a small SUV, this is it. But definitely get the V6, and ES and luxury package if you can.

Smooth, comfortable ride. Much better than the Jeep Liberty or Nissan X-Terra, or even the similar Ford Escape. The V-6 engine is a treat--quick, powerful and smooth. (Almost as quiet as the one in my BMW 325.) Handles beautifully for a SUV. In my opinion, this is the best buy among the smaller SUVs. Very happy with it.

    2002 Mazda Tribute - ES V6 (A4) 4x4

    Pros: Engine and drivetrain

    Cons: Placement of the ignition

Advice: If you can live without V6 power, leather & power seats and you like to picnic, then get the Honda CRV

Great power off the line. Ride is a little stiff, but thats what you would expect from an SUV. For a few bucks more get the SE and enjoy everything that goes with it. Three teenagers fit in the back with no complaints. Door panels and doors seem to be rather cheap looking and light. When you close the doors it feels like a 10k vehicle. The looks and the drivetrain got my vote over the other vehicles I looked at. Very comfortable seating positions w/the power seat. Shift lever is in the way of radio controls, rear defroster does not have auto shut off, doors do not auto lock and most important of all, do not use this SUV as a get away vehicle, the police will arrive before you can get the key into the ignition.

    2002 Mazda Tribute - LX V6 (A4) FWD

Pros: The power, and the look

Cons: the price, have to sacrifice a knee cap to own one.

Advice: be prepared for the sticker price to be rock bottom price no negotiation, maybe later on there will be some rebates or incentive programs

I was really impressed with the 'giddy-up' on this little vehicle. The first dealership we dealt with was rude and they kept us there 2 hrs trying to tell us we had to come up with $6,500 down to take it home. Needless to say we left. The next dealership 'Knoxville Mazda' treated us great but after already having shopped 2 hrs previously for one we were thru playing games. The tribute has a great look and feel, very sporty, and economical enough to still be the 'family car.' I recommend a test drive at least I think the 0-60 in 8 seconds is a little off though I think I made it in 6 flat ha ha!!!

    2002 Mazda Tribute - ES V6 (A4) 4x4

Pros: Great acceleration and excellent handling, especially in snow

Cons: Leather seats are a little stiff

Advice: Go with the ES V6-4WD. There is a lot of value for not much more $ in the top of the line model.

I've had the ES-4WD for about 3 months now after about a 4 month wait. It was worth the wait. The V6 Tribute has great acceleration with car-like handling. Handling in the snow is exceptional. During a recent snowstorm several cars and SUVs were spun-off on the side of the road. The 4WD Tribute had no problem working through the otherwise slippery stuff. The ABS kicked in a few times to help slow the vehicle down effectively. The ES is very luxurious with a lot of nice features in the luxury package. The leather seats are a little stiff though. They shortened the gear shift on the 2002 models so it is less of a problem. The seat/cargo configuration is convenient and flexible. In summary, great vehicle...great value...great choice. No buyer's remorse here.
