Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The sporty look
Cons: The interior almost makes this car look like a couch on wheels.
Advice: Pay close attention to the warranty because I don't think anyone else can match it.It was a big pleasure to finally test drive a little car with this much power. I was sold on the look and not to mention the warranty, believe me with a warranty like this one you won't go wrong. I was very fortunate to be able to find one in red with a five speed manual transmission, that there is what sporty is all about. I do have to say that the shifter could use some work but it does the job.
Pros: the look
Cons: engine noise
Advice: Don't pay what you would pay for it's competitorI actually bought this car left over from 2004. Got it for less the $10,000. The car looks great inside and out, however, everything looks and feels paper thin. Shutting the trunk for the first time feels strange because it is so much lighter than you would expect. The engine light will come on if the gas cap is not VERY tight. The engine makes alot of noise, more than it should. Shifting it is not enjoyable at all. The engine seems to not want to decellerate during shifts. You can feel the front wheel drive power in the steering wheel during steering and accelleration. It does feel very sturdy and you get a smooth ride. The look is very nice. The warranty is great. I am pleased with my purchase because of the price. If I had to pay a price simular to Ford focus, corrolla, or civic, I would purchase one of those cars.
Pros: Cabin interior.
Cons: Cheap looking seat fabric.
Advice: Give this car a good consideration over the boring Honda's/Toyota's or more expensive Mazda.Pleasantly surprised with this car. Looked at it because I thought the Mazda3 and RAV4 were too expensive. However, I actually like the ride of this car better than the RAV4 and the looks of the interior better than the Mazda3 and RAV4.
Pros: The shifter look and feel!!
Cons: HUGE tail lights.
Advice: Dont be taken advantage of with the price!!I wanted to make everyone aware that I bought this car a week ago and I payed 14,100 with sunroof (moonroof if you prefer)and cruise control so don't be taken advantage of!! There are 3 problems so far (1)Rear right passanger speaker blew, (2) Some body rust (Im sure this is not a Kia problem, just a poor paint job), and (3)the cruise control stoped working at 600 miles. Other than that it is a good vehicle nice ride, good fit and finish, could be a bit more comfortable, but it is still a good car, seems like it will last a while. Love the shifter, (hard time getting into reverse). Let me know if anyone else has similar problems!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: Overall look and feel of the vehicle.
Cons: The paltry 23 MPG that I am getting.
Advice: Ask your dealer what they will do if you get unacceptably low gas mileageLike others, I had a list of about six vehicles which I was considering. I almost drove by the KIA dealer but something made me pull in and take a look. I ended up leaving with a Spectra5. I was impressed with the styling, solid feel, features, interior space, warranty, driving qualities, and price. My complaint at this point is that I am only getting 23 miles per gallon. That is the same gas mileage my tired '94 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.1 L and 150k miles was getting under the same driving conditions. Since another reviewer indicates getting 33 MPG, I definitely think something is not right with my Spectra5. Overall, I am having fun driving my Spectra5 and feel like I made a good purchase.
Pros: the looks
Cons: they should get rid of the big light at the top indicating if a passanger is in the passanger seat to disabled if vacant
Advice: I think this is a great car and a warranty to back your entire ownership of the car which usually lasts around 5yearsI researched for month between the focus,matrix,mazda3 and chevy cavalier. Kia spectra5 won hands down compared to price, warranty, style and enjoyable driving. The take off speed in this car is fast and holds up to speed being it's a lighter car with a 4 cylinder 2.0 DHOC(dual overhead cams) with cvvt transmission which smooths out the changing of gears you can hardly tell, sometimes i think it's a v6 in fact there was more take off speed in mine than that of my mothers toyota camry. I love the heated side mirrors and lots of available room and it was very affordable even with moonroof, cruise remote keyless entry and 6 airbags front, side and curtian
Pros: 6 standars airbags.
Cons: Poor frontal crash performance.
Advice: Good little car, just be aware of the crash test results.I bought this car for my wife, so I didn't test drive it before I bought it. I was pleasantly suprised to find that it handles pretty well. The shifter throws could be a little shorter, which would make it feel sportier, but since this is going to be a grocery getter, it's no big deal. She loves the car, but its also her first new car, so she may be biased. After we had the car for a week or so, I found the crash test ratings on the net. I was 'disappointed' to find that it scored a poor rating in frontal impact. The airbag apparently allowed the crash test dummy's head to contact the steering wheel, not good. I've been kinda unnerved about the car since i found this out, and have decided to pay the car off quickly, maybe a year and a half, then get her a different vehicle, probably an suv, and I'll use this one as a daily driver. The safety aspect doesn't bother me if I'm the one driving it, after all, my daily driver right now is a motorcycle. If you're putting your family in one of these, be aware that it's not as safe as you might think.
