Pros: The amount of room in the back with the seats down
Cons: The unrealiability when it was just out of warranty and even when it was in warranty the dealership would not address my concerns.
Advice: Do not believe the Fotd hype' about M.P.G. on this car, and get a longer warranty if you buy new.I bought my Focus wagon in Florida in '05. As of Sept' 07 I still own it. After 37,000 miles I only had one complaint which was a black exhaust even after a 3,000 mile trip to C.A. The dealership in San Leandro did't want to know as there was no MIL light on when I queried this. After 37,000 miles it got hard to start but again no trouble codes were present. It is now on 44,000 and I cannot wait for the day when I can get rid of it I only get 22mpg around town and never more than 30 hwy.use. The alignment (I have found out) must have been out since I bought it as the inner tread was down to the wire at 37,000.I have always been a Ford buyer but this car has left a sour taste in my mouth and i will be buying a Toyota Camery as soon as I can get a good deal on one.
Pros: manual transmission
Cons: hood problems
Advice: Either buy brand new or not at all.I don't know what I did to this car, but it had some serious problems only a year after I purchased it. My AC went out, which was costly to fix. A tire rod went out, and now my rack and pinion need to be replaced. It's only an 03. I shouldn't have to replace all the components of my car.
Pros: mp3 player
Cons: the hatch is alright
Advice: test drive...you'll know right away if its for youdrives beautifully, and is good on gas...i'm excited about this car and hope to have it for a long time
Cons: Interior it screams CHEAP (and is)
Advice: Dont buy one til ford pulls there head out of there tail pipe!It begs to be driven cause it is C-h-eap. it has more creaks than an old barn, and I found Rust! under the dash. its a strong runner though plenty of go, milage about 30 mpg I have 13,000... compared to the 2000 ZX3 I owned this one is a lemon... Buy a Civic..Trust me on this one. I test drove the civic pricey but worth it! Signed disinfrancised soon to be ex- Ford loyalist!
Pros: the I tec engine is very good...16' wheels
Cons: how costly the repair have been, poor warranty
Advice: rear left axle broke, could have taken my life, a/c fan had to replace, radio volum broke, the automatic transmission. the o/d stopped working.. haven't had the money to fix it yet, rear wheel bearing went. The Focus has a tendency to sway at higher speeds mostly on concrete roads...good visibility, comfort, don't buy one I did and have had more out of packet expense than any other new car I have purchased.
Pros: MP3 player, gas mileage, driving dynamics
Cons: Noisy at highway speeds on rough roads or windy days
Advice: Drive the vehicle. It might not be for you, but I found it very good for its class.I absolutely love my Focus. I'm a high mileage commuter and now have about 20k on the car in under a year. Not a single problem or unexpected wear. The handling is spectacular. Road noise is a little loud, but not obnoxious. I bought this car over a Civic, Corolla and Cobalt. The Focus was better than the Corolla and Cobalt and while trailing the new Civic in overall package, the Civic was not so good that I would have paid nearly $5k more for it.
Pros: Handling, MPG and price.
Cons: Gasoline problem
Advice: Give the Focus serious consideration for a nice economical car.I've driven my new Focus over 750 miles and it's alot of fun to drive. However, it's now in the shop being repaired for a defective gas filler neck. On my first fill up, the gas immediately backed up and shot out of the tank soaking me with gasoline! Apparently, the filler neck was smashed somehow during factory installation. Hopefully, it will be properly repaired. Otherwise, it's a really enjoyable car to drive.
