Pros: Ride and Handling
Cons: I can't ride in the roomy back seat when alone!
Advice: Don't drive one unless you are in a position to buy!I have owned the 500 for 11 months (50,000+ KM) in all types of road and weather conditions. The 500 handles better than any previous vehicle I have owned and the AWD is a dream on gravel roads. The Michelin Ice tires provide excellent traction in snow and ice and one has to be careful not to 'overdrive' winter road conditions as the car handles as if the road was bare. The ride is superb and extremely quiet. Freeway mileage averages 40 MPG (imperial gallons) consistently. I have been on the road for 30 years plus and this is the most enjoyable vehicle I have driven including numerous Ford and GM models.
Pros: Great milage on a large family cruiser
Cons: A bit underpowered to make it fun to drive
Advice: GreatIt's a nice ride. I just traded in my super-crew F-150 which I liked for all the room it offered. With the 500, I didn't give up anything and I got leather seats. I have logged a few hundred miles now and only have a few complaints... 1) When using the auto-volume speed controls on the radio, the sound gets tinny. 2) No telescoping on the steering column. 3) Could use a few more HPs. Getting 22+ MPG in mixed driving. I would guess about 25 MPGs or better on longer freeway trips, especially with cruise set. Fits the family great. Easy to get in and out. Child seats are a little tough to first install, and can only fit two, but the rear anchor was easy to attach. Saved $6500 with A-Plan and rebates!
Cons: no power at all
Advice: wait for a little improvement in powerMy Toyota was in the shop after a ding in the rear. The insurance company supplied us with a 500 rental. It was VERY comfortable to ride in but had NO POWER at all and the transmission was rather odd in the way it reacted to a request for power. Also, some things fell apart during the week and the car only had 3K on on it (for example, the rear door would not close unless fought with for a time). My review would be mixed .... great ride, nice style but no power and quality is questionable.
Pros: The trunk, The heated seats, the roomy cabin, the elevated positioning of the seats, the sunroof
Cons: The 6 disc changer is GARBAGE. Lots of CD's wont play on it. It messes up all the time.
Advice: Change the radio, the break pads wear easySmooth comfy ride, but the CD player is terrible, it doesnt do hills very well. It seems like there is no power, but it does get up pretty fast. The smooth ride can make you think your cruising when your actually speeding. I like the HUGE trunk and the fold down seats in the back. I also like the 8 cupholders throughout the car. Overall its a nice car. Coulda been designed a little more flashier...and did I say the RADIO SUCKS?!?!
Pros: Ride and handling
Cons: Would like to see more horsepower,, That headlite dimmer switch needs to go.
Advice: Sit in the rear seat , then tell your saleperson the write it upLove the room in this car, first car I have ever owned that the back seat is as confortable as the front. A car you can get in and out of with ease. 25 m/gal not bad! A trunk big enough to put your golf bags and a weeks eats. Ford you did it right this time!
Pros: rear seats fold down
Cons: I replaced the trunk light with two real lights
Advice: buy it,its a great carI purchased the car in february, put 2300 miles on it,drained the oil and put in mobil one. drove to florida and got 25 mpg. have since made two other trips and now get 28mpg. I opted for the limited with AWD. the car is fully loaded. have not had one problem since purchase and now have 14,367 miles on it. The AWD and pirelli tires are a great combination in snow and ice,as we found out on the way down.with four adults and luggage the car still has plenty of power. The ride is great and plenty of room.
Pros: Space, great mileage, good ride.
Cons: Repair record terrible. In the shop every week.
Advice: Wait until Ford works the bugs out of the 05's maybe even the early 06 and hold out for bigger motor. CVT works great but not sure if they will last or stay quiet.I Have had two Grand Marquis for over 200,000 each but purchasing this first year early model was a major mistake. I want to love this car and the Ford warranty has been good and dealer is trying his best but problems still abound. First the good. Lots of room in a midsize package, Great gas mileage, Power good but who can ever have enough. Fit and finish good, seats good, leg room good in front, excellent in rear. Very good head room, great trunk but needs larger opening. AWD super, really a Lots of car for the money. Now the bad , everything breaks, Alignment not good from factory, tires wore out inside of rear @ 12K and they got very noisey / Ford did replace. AC makes squel noise everytime the clutch comes on at higher RPM. Been repaired several times still not right but better. Dog legs chip easy had to repaint and put 3M on, squeaks, rattles, vibrating brakes bad rotors and on and on. CVT trans gets real noisey at 18K and dealer doesn't know how to fix I think its going to blow up. Most fixed now except Trans & AC. I purchased this new car because I was afraid my old GMark was going to put me in the shop a lot but Since I have had this car I live there. Look I am an on the road Sales guy in my late 40's I drive a lot but I am not hard on my cars. Like I said 200k on both of my last Grand Marquis and never a problem, ever, My advice don't buy an 05 500 wait! If Ford gets the bugs out and maybe a bigger motor go for it but right now WAIT!!!!! or if you don't need AWD buy a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis.
