Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
One of the best I've owned
Pros: The R/T suspension and stability control
Cons: sluggish acceleration from a dead stopIt's sad that Dodge is going to discontinue this model. I think with a little more promotion this could have been a hit. My caliber, the AWD R/T model has been consistantly dependable. It has over 72,000 miles on it and the only thing I have had to replace is the tires. It handles great (I live in the foothills and travel winding hilly roads daily) and stops on a dime.
Pros: The drivetrain.
Cons: The console.
Advice: The '09's are pretty rare, so it may take some searching around to find one.I bought my 2009 Caliber SRT-4 in August of '09. It now has 10,000 miles. I have been very impressed with this vehicle so far and have had zero problems. The performance is excellent. Using the in-dash performance computer, I can achieve 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and have hit the 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds at 100 mph. I think that's pretty quick for a 100% stock car. I love the aggressive look of the car and also the extra room versus other compact hot rods. My only (slight) dislike is a somewhat awkward seating-to-console position. There's no clearance to use the console iPod mount while shifting gears. Other than that, I give the '09 Caliber SRT-4 a 9 out of 10.
Pros: The look and the smooth ride
Advice: It's high performanceI didn't need to test drive it, once I sat in it, I was in love, in fact I couldn't get a good deal in Atlanta, I called a friend who owns a dealership in Nashville, she bought it at the auction, I purchased it sight unseen. To answer the question, it is the best handling car I've driven, and I've driven many. The Magnum will go down in history and become a collectors car.
Pros: the whole package
Cons: No ipod hook-up
Advice: If you ever have the chance to buy one get it quick. This car is the best Quality and best looking car that I have ever owned. The handleing and performance of this srt8 is quite OUTSTANDING to say the least. I hope this car and I last forever.
Pros: AWD, ROOM, and VROOM
Advice: Owned alot of cars this one I will keep around..I made alot of fun about this car when I first seen them. I drove one for fun, and that was that.. I ate my own words, when I thought I would never own a wagon.. I grew up with racing and always seeing the wagons pulling great times and were always being known for the sleeper.. Dodge has brought that back with the HEMI RT and its great. If you have not driven one, do it even if it's for fun..
Cons: the engine
Advice: Don't know the reliability of this carI bought a 2007 Dodge Caliber. It had 20, 450 miles on it and was still covered by warranty. I haven't had the car for a month and it's been in the shop twice and is about to go in again. First, the brakes made a crunching sound within the first week. Second, the engine started to sound like there were parakeets living in it. I brought the car to the dealer where I bought it and they brought it to the Dodge dealership and after having the car for four days, they said that it's normal for the engine to chirp. What? Now, I finally get my car home after not driving it for four days. Lock it like I always do and when I go to get in it later, the alarm would not stop going off. If I tried to start the car, if I tried to open the doors, it would go into panic mode. I gave up my 1987 Toyota Celica that ran perfectly for the Dodge Caliber. How is it that a car from 1987 runs better than a 2007? What's wrong with this picture?
Pros: Good gas milage, heated seating
Cons: The HUGE blind spots at the rear of the car
Advice: For the price, definitely load up on the options, well worth it!!At first I was leery/concerned of the HUGE blind spots... But I gave the Caliber a 3 day test period (bro-n-law is a dealer, let me take it for the w/e), and I fell in love. I was impressed with the handling, tightness, and smooth ride it produced. With hubby, myself, and our 2 children in the car, we didn't feel 'cramped', and all felt very comfortable. Let alone the wonderful gas milage! Considering I was coming from a 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee, this is an excellent choice when one is buying for fuel economy and comfort.
