Pros: auto sliding doors, auto real tailgate, interior layout and room
Cons: mechanical failures
Advice: be prepared for frequent mechanical problemsMy first grand caravan's transmission went just 6,000 miles out of warranty. After replacing first caravan's transmission--I knew enough to purchase the extended warranty. 2nd caravan's transmission went just 8,000 miles out of warranty. Car handles well and is very comfortable for long travel w/family and friends. Opt for touring pkg -- gives a nice smooth ride. Lots of small computer problem w/sliding doors, engine and seatbelt lights going on, etc. Make sure you have a good service dept. Car is functionally superb for my family--but not worth the downtime in mechanical problems.
Pros: Lots of window area, you can see all around the van
Cons: Mine does not have power sliding doors
Advice: Buy itOverall a great ride and value for the money. I bought used and got a great deal from a dealer on ebay. Very sporty styling and looks great when detailed out. CD was not standard on this model year, wish it had one. Overall it is a great vehicle for the money and am pleased with it so far.
Pros: Quad seating
Cons: road noise
Advice: very reliableAll went very smooth
Pros: Dual Climate Control
Cons: 12 mpg. Stated is supposed to be 19-26mpg.
Advice: Don't buy if you want great gas mileage. We had a 2002 Explorer 4x4 ($551 per month financed) that got 16-18mpg and needed something with better gas mileage for our out-of-town trips. We bought a 2006 Caravan SXT for $25,035 ($588 per month plus $45 more per month in insurance) because with the mpg on the Caravan it should save us money in the long run. Exactly ONE week after buying this BRAND NEW vehicle, it gets 12.006 mpg and is currently in the shop getting looked at. The dealer (DodgeLand of Columbia) doesn't have a loaner vehicle even though the vehicle they sold me has problems, so I am without a car for the first time in 7 years. The inside is roomy and my 2 children love the van, they sit in a different seat each time we get in. But overall, I'm very disappointed in the purchase. I should have stuck with Ford!
Pros: Sto N Go
Cons: Noisy interior
Advice: Live without Sto N Go and you'll get a quieter vehicle.Engine is a bit noisy - probably normal but due to poor sound insulation it's quite audible. Outside sounds seem to penetrate the cabin and the large hollow Sto n Go seat wells tend to amplify outside sound. The under carriage is reconfigured for the Sto n Go feature so the exhaust and spare tire changes have revised the underbody layout adversely resulting in more noise inside the vehicle. The SE Plus package offers cheap plastic looking interior doors that also lack sound deadening. Overall, I am dissatisfied with the interior noise level and corner cutting to save cost.
Pros: Remote rear hatch opening and closing.
Cons: cup holders on rear seats.
Advice: Can get great deals on this vechicle. Got mine for $8500 off list.Excellent storage space, all seats fold down easily and love the way remote doors open as well as back hatch. Radio controls on steering wheel come in handy on trips. Like it very much. 4th Chrsler Van I have owned. This is by far the best.
Pros: DVD Player, sliding doors on both sides of vehicle, awesome A/C
Cons: no rear defroster
Advice: do your homework and research vans, be careful who you do business withUp to now we have driven a 94 Voyager SE and an 86 Volvo. We were not looking for a sports car, we wanted a family car. We compared several different models such as KIA, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy. Toyotas and Hondas are priced crazy. Kias were the only other cost effective van. I did not like the Kia as much because of the tray in the middle of the front seats. I felt after a few kicks from my three year old, that tray would be broken. The Caravan was cost effective. I wanted a basic model with radio and A/C. No other features would change our like or dislike for the vehicle. This one came with a Entertainment package (DVD player, earphones not included), a roof rack, and pearl gold paint. The sticker price was $20,446. We took advantage of the $4000 rebates and got a great deal for $17,446 when all was said and done. The car is worth over $18,000. So I feel like we got a great deal. It's a step up for us.
