2003 Chrysler Town and Country - Base FWD
Pros: Good for the family
Cons: Replacing the brakes at just over 30,000 miles and the starting problem at 42,000 miles
Advice: Be prepared to replace your brakes way too early and for the car to not start when you need it after 40,000 miles
My wife and I purchased a new 2003 Town & Country. We had to replace the brakes at just over 30,000 miles. They should have lasted much longer. There is no reason that the original brakes shouldn't have lasted longer other than the fact that Chrysler has inferior brakes (or perhaps Chrysler got together with the brake manufacturer just like the hot dog people got together with the bun people to rip off the American public). My wife went out to start the vehicle (at a bit over 42,000 miles), and it wouldn't start. The instrument lights came on and that was all. The starter wouldn't turn over, nothing. After a day, just prior to taking it to the shop, it started. After running for thirty seconds, it quit. It started, ran for thrity second, and quit again. The third time it was back to just the instrument lights, no cranking, and subsequently, no starting. This vehicle has been well maintained since we've had it. This problem is not something that I would expect at 42,000 miles. Worst of all, they charge you an arm and a leg just to hook the thing up to their diagnostic equipment. What a racket. You now have to spend money for them just to tell you what's wrong with your car. That's a bunch of cr*p. -
2006 Chrysler Town and Country - Passenger
Pros: The captain seats
Cons: Overall performance
Advice: Make sure that your dealers are able to fix any problems and are reliable.
It is not a very realiable van because I have only had it for 3 years and I am having major problems. On our trip to Destion the van suddenly burned out and started violently vibrating and we had to pull over. The gas peddle was literally burning my foot. But, before we had conducted this trip I had maintaince check it over because it had conducted small problems before. Even though I specifically told them the transmission was having problems they only told me that there was nothing wrong. It was a waste because the transmission blew up on the trip. Overall, this van is not very reliable either is the maintance crew...not worth its money. -

Pros: comfort and space
Cons: not reliable
Advice: look else where
had to have a new transmission put in (while on vacation) the customer service is great even though this occurred while on vacation and they kept my van the entire week for the transmission. Had to have the brakes replaced (I only have 30,000 miles on it). Seems to have a steering problem and a noise in the front and right rear which the dealership cannot determine what the problem is therefore cannot fix it. Would not by again -
2005 Chrysler Town and Country - Limited Long Wheelbase Passenger
Pros: squeaky stow-n-go seats.
Cons: Chryslers inability to resolve issues without sarcasm.
Advice: Test drive for more than a few hours and don't sign paperwork until vehicle is perfect.
We have had this vehicle for one year now and have had lots of problems. Front end aligned 4 times -- still not fixed!!!! tires replaced, passenger window motor replaced, strut replaced, control arm replaced, camber bolts replaced, stow and go seats squeek like crazy, front end creeks when steering wheel turned, rear dvd stops responding until car restarted, flimsy dvd headsets had to be replaced, overall fuel economy 17.5 mpg 70/30 highway/city. Chrysler will not repair alignment. Says 'Its within factory specs.' Quote from Chrysler customer service. 'whats the problem you can't drive the vehicle with your hands off the steering wheel' and 'If the service manager told you vehicle was within factory specs, just drive the vehicle, thats what I'd do.' going back to dealer for the 5th time tomorrow!! -
2005 Chrysler Town and Country - Touring Long Wheelbase Passenger
Pros: Sto n Go
Cons: No lighting for the cruise control,climate control, auto windows and locks. No Daytime running lights.
Advice: Wait for the next year model to come out, make sure things listed above are added:)
My wife and I bought used and got an EXCELLENT deal. Thus far the only problem is the driver side rear window doesn't open. We have the touring and for this model, day-time running lights, lit cruise control, and many other dome-light features SHOULD have been considerred. I put a K&N air filter in and get excellent gas mileage above the standard. WE REALLY like the Sto'n'go and who wouldn't? I'm sure hope Chrysler review's these ideas that we all have put down and makes them standard on their vehicles. The traction control is also a nice feture -

Cons: Power door malfunction
Advice: Get a good warranty
I purchased my 2005 T&C Touring in December 2004 and in the seven months that I have owned it, it has been in the shop for 12 days. Seven of those days were to have the rack and pinion steering mechanism replaced. The rest of the time it has been in the shop has been for a problem with the power sliding door malfunctioning. The problem is intermittent and service department has had no luck in getting the problem to repeat when they have it. At this time I am virtually out of luck with getting a brand new car to perform the way it should. -

Cons: The middle and rear seats look cheap (they are very comfy though!)
Advice: Make sure you understand the warranty!
Test drive was what closed the deal. Comfortable, convenient, and less expensive than other brands that offer less incentives (ie the stow n go). Great for the family with a huge dog that travels! Lots of power and room.
