Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: All wheel drive and cornering
Cons: Navigator and sound system
Advice: Dont'pay extra for the Navigator. Wait 6 months befoer buying it!
The drive of the car is excellent, but has major problems with the sound system and Navigator. They both don't work in cold weather. Audi is aware of these problems but does not have the spare parts to replace them so customers have to suffer after [aying top dollar for this car. Also has problems with the windshield wipers. They streak and can not be fixed I am told.Pros: The styling
Cons: the service
Advice: make sure the dealership has a good service department.
A wonderful car. Looks great, very luxurious, powerful. The quality is terrific. The only problem is that if you need to get service work done you must be patient. Service is terrible.Pros: Nice ride
Cons: Substandard quality all around. Horrible 'customer service'. Avoid Audi.
Advice: Don't buy one unless you like spending all your time at the dealership fixing junk.
The gentleman I work for has a 2004. I have a 1999. My vehicle has been a piece of unreliable junk since new. As it turns out, the 2004 is emulating the 1999 defect by defect: failing dashboard, failing engine computer, worn out rotors and pads at 30K, 4 gas tank sensor replacements, 3 temp sensor replacements, 5 radios, fuel injector replacment at 50K, cable harness wiring failures (multiple), leaking differentials. Read: Audi builds JUNK. And the 2004 is following the same pattern. Be forwarned: Audi/USA 'customer advocates' are, in my opinion, a scam. They are trained to provide one answer: 'sorry we could not meet your expectations'. Horrible product, horrible customer service. Only had about 7 recalls.Pros: The transmission is unbelievably smooth.
Cons: criuse control location
Advice: Don't waste the extra money on a BMW.
For luxury and performance the A6 3.0 is a terrific buy in the mid thirties range. It is great looking. It gets good mileage. There is ample room for back seat passengers. The fit and finish are impeccable. With the folddown back seats the trunk becomes cavernous. After driving the A6 one wonders why pay the exhorbitant premium for a BMW.The A6 may be the best kept secret in autodom!Pros: Fast, smooth, 6-speed tranny.
Cons: Gas mileage
Advice: Make sure that your dealership is first rate with service. Like most Germans, Audis can be tempermental. A good dealership, (and the 48mo. all-inclusive warranty) make maintneance and reparis a breeze.
After owning a '98 A6, I was looking forward to getting something that have more 'ooomph', and boy, did I get it. The 2.7T, with the six speed manual is, off the mark, faster than my TT 225 Roadster (!) Cruising is very swift, relaxing, and effortless. The interior is, I dare say, without fault, and the rear seat room and comfort never fail to amaze passengers. Add in a trunk that (with the seats folded) yields a usable space sufficient to carry three adults, luggage, and skis for a 7 day trip.Pros: Quattro - excellent traction in snow & rain
Cons: Transmission - occasional skips and high rev/low-power starts
Advice: If you want AWD and performance, the A6 is great.
Great car. Might have bought BMW 5 if not for Quattro. In the snow, this car is very sure-footed. Unfortunately, a couple of complaints: The transmission occasionally skips; the car revs high with low power on cold start; console switches are attractive but not quite as efficient/usable as other designs. Overall, though, an excellent car. I would easily consider buying another Audi when the lease is up.Pros: feel of gripping the road & lumbar supports & sound system,
Cons: Appearance of lack of depth of the rear seat back- but have NOT ridden it yet
Advice: Test dirve in the mountians!!
Very impressed w/ features, size and creature comforts. Was not even considered until salesman showing us Acura heard us mention having owned 2 Mercedes and missed the feeling of a substanial car around us. One drive in the Audi knocked our socks off. Drove it 250 miles home thru 2 sets of foothill and mountain roads just now and love everything about it--so far!!
