The Red Bull Global Rallycross Los Angeles presented by Subaru Technica International rolled into the Port of LA this past weekend, and we were lucky enough to get up-close and personal with the world's most advanced GRC racecar. Vermont Sportscar is the company responsible for building Subaru's rally cars here in the US, and their years of experience are responsible for creating Bucky Lasek's #81 2016 Subaru WRX STI Global Rallycross racecar.
While the STI is the only AWD car on the grid that comes that way from the factory, there is little that remains from the street car. After stripping the STI down to its basecoat, the crew at Vermont Sportscar gets to work creating a 600 HP rocketship that can not only accelerate from 0-60 MPH in under 2 seconds, but fly through the air and across dirt with grace.
First we sit down with Bucky to talk racing, then we speak with Lance Smith, owner and operator of Vermont Sportscar, to see why he loves Subaru so much.
