During an event centered around the 2017 Solar Eclipse in Nashville, Nissan announced that the Frontier, Titan, and Titan XD trucks would be joining their Midnight Edition vehicle lineup.

But what are Midnight Edition vehicles? What makes the Midnight Edition a must for pickup trucks? Is it worth the upgrade? Read on as we explain ten things that you might not know about Nissan's Midnight Edition pickup trucks.

1) You can actually save money by buying a Midnight Edition.

The good news is, if you were to take a conventional Nissan vehicle and add the same options as the Midnight Edition, you'd pay more. The Midnight Edition trim, on average, saves you 50% over ordering the options separately. And the pickup trucks aren't the only vehicles from Nissan to have Midnight Edition trim levels offered. Outside of the supercar GT-R, the 370Z, and the soon-to-be-replaced Leaf, the rest of the Nissan models are also available as Midnight Editions.

2) Trucks are the latest to get Midnight Editions.

The Maxima might have started it all, but the trucks are the latest to get the updates. That includes the Nissan Frontier, the Titan and Titan XD.

But the package isn’t available on all of the trucks. You’ll have to make sure you’re getting the big crew cab versions to have the Midnight Edition available.

All of the Midnight Edition trucks receive black wheels and trim pieces, which include the mirror caps and step rails. The front and rear bumpers are also painted to match the body color, which is a nice touch. Optional Midnight Edition floor mats also become available when you check the box.

3) You don’t have to get black, but color choices are limited.

When the Maxima first came out in Midnight Edition, the only color available was black. While it sold well, customers like to have choices and they quickly responded on the next models.

For the trucks, Magnetic Black, Gun Metallic, or Glacier White are the available color options. Other Midnight Edition vehicles receive a shade of red as an additional color option.

4) The half-ton Titan gets the most Midnight Edition updates.

Moving up a class puts you straight in the highly-competitive half-ton category. This is where the new Nissan Titan Midnight Edition trim shines. The Midnight Edition Titan gets a black front grille with black inserts, dark headlights, and black fog light finishers. It also gets black outside rearview mirrors and door handles, step rails, and exterior badging. Of course, the 20-inch wheels are black and the bumpers are body colored. The interior features charcoal interior. Like the Frontier, available exterior colors are Magnetic Black, Gun Metal, and Pearl White.

The Titan is a solid buy for a lot of truck buyers, it carries the best truck warranty in the industry with 5-years or 50,000 miles for bumper-to-bumper coverage.

5) The Titan XD Midnight Edition is available with a gas or diesel engine.

The Titan XD is Nissan's heavier-duty, without being heavy duty, pickup truck. Designed for people who don't want a full three-quarter ton truck but need to tow or haul more, the Titan XD is the choice. It's a gasoline or Cummins diesel-powered offering that can also be outfitted as a Midnight Edition.

Checking the option box on XD requires a diesel version of the truck in Crew Cab SV or SL configuration plus four-wheel drive. Opting for the Midnight Edition the on the XD gets you a black front grille with black insert, blacked out headlights, black fog lamp surrounds and black fender louvers. Additionally, you get black mirrors and handles, step rails, badges, and 20-inch black wheels. Like the regular Titan, the XD Midnight Edition also includes painted bumpers to match the body color. Exterior colors available are also identical to the regular Titan: Magnetic Black, Gun Metal, and Glacier White.

6) The Frontier Midnight Edition isn’t the new Frontier

Nissan’s Frontier midsize pickup truck is a strong seller for the company. The Midnight Edition offering on Frontier gives truck buyers who love customization the option to stand out from the pack.

The rest of the truck is the same Frontier that’s been on sale for over a decade. It’s inexpensive, reliable transportation in a small size that customers love. That’s why it sells, and why Nissan’s not in a hurry to replace it.

7) Midnight Edition adds extra safety on the Nissan Altima

The Midnight Edition trim, for the most part, is an appearance package to spruce up the looks of your ride. On the Altima, it adds extra safety.

Purchasing your Altima with the Midnight Edition package adds LED headlights. These lights are brighter at night, adding to the car's safety. Plus, they use a different type of technology than typical headlight bulbs and have the bonus of lasting the entire life of the car. Very few LED lights need to be replaced because of their design. That saves you money over the lifetime you own the car.

As an added convenience, the Altima Midnight Edition comes with remote start. Nothing beats walking up to your vehicle and already have it heated or cooled to your desired temperature.

8) You still get the warranty.

Adding upgrades to your car can often void a warranty. With the Midnight Edition updates, you keep your factory warranty and the dealer can still work on your car.

For most Nissans that’s a 3 year or 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. But on the Titan and Titan XD, the factory warranty is 5 years or 100,000 miles bumper-to-bumper. That’s the best in the business.

9) You can get the trucks this fall, or the other versions now.

If you want to get one of these Midnight Editions today, they’re available on the Murano, Sentra, Altima, Maxima, Rogue, and Pathfinder.

The Titan, Titan XD, and Frontier will be available this fall when the 2018 models start to hit dealerships.

10) Midnight Editions are a big win for truck buyers who value customization.

Truck buyers who love to customize their vehicles and have something different from everyone else will enjoy the Midnight Edition trucks from Nissan. You'll know when you pass one of these Midnight Edition vehicles on the road. To keep up with the other major truck manufacturers in the U.S. (Ram, Ford, and Chevrolet) the Midnight Edition offers a competitive choice over the competition.
