All-Stars Also Autograph Corvette for Charity Auction
Corvette Stingray boasts a hood autographed by the 2014 MLB all-stars
With both able to display an incredible mixture of speed, power and athleticism, it makes sense that Mike Trout—the five-tool outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim—just selected a 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray as his prize for winning the MLB All-Star Game Most Value Player Award.
Trout led the American League to victory in the recent contest, courtesy of a first-inning rbi triple that helped the AL kick off the All-Star game scoring, as well as a double that put the junior circuit ahead for good in the fifth inning. The final score was 5-3, with the Detroit Tigers' Max Scherzer picking up the win. The MLB regular season picks up again later this week, with Trout starting the second-half of the season with a .310 batting average, a .400 on-base percentage, 22 home runs and—for the sabermetrically inclined—already has rung up a WAR of 5.5.
As for the numbers for the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray, it comes to play with a standard 6.2-liter V8 engine that develops 455 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, along with a highly sophisticated suspension, a world-class cabin and a well-stocked trophy case of its own. And customers should note that Trout isn't the only one in line to take home a new All-Star Corvette. The Bowtie brand also will auction one through www.ChevyBaseball.com, with proceeds going to the United Way, MLB Charities and the MLB Players Trust.
The auction car, however, isn't just any 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray: It's actually a tuned-up Z51 edition that serves up an extra dose of performance and boasts a hood autographed by the 2014 MLB all-stars. Chevy had the players autograph a detached Corvette hood, too, and that item also is up for auction.
Said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president for Chevrolet Marketing: “Tonight, we honor the achievements of Mike Trout, the 2014 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player, while we showcase our own MVPs, the Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet Silverado. We hope many of our fellow baseball fans join us to help raise funds for a worthy cause.”
(Note: As the All Star MVP, Trout had his choice of the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray—reigning North American Car of the Year—or a Chevy Silverado, the current North American Truck of the Year.)
