Last year Toyota set a new export record for US-built vehicles with 124,000 cars heading out to 21 markets last year. That is a 45-percent increase over their 2011 number. For 2013 Toyota is hoping to expand that number farther by shipping the new Venza to Ukraine and Russia. The Venzas are being manufactured at the Georgetown, Kentucky plant, and will begin production of April this year.

The current plan is to ship 5,000 models to Russia and Ukraine in this first year. The plant is the largest assembly facility Toyota owns outside of Japan and represents a $6-billion investment, and employs 6,600 people. “We are proud that Toyota’s U.S. manufacturing operations are continuing to grow as a key supplier of vehicles for global markets, which is only possible thanks to the dedication and high-quality work of our team members here,” said Shigeki Terashi, president and COO of Toyota Motor North America, Inc. “We expect the export of Venza vehicles to Russia and Ukraine will help further solidify our U.S. manufacturing base.”
