    2002 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab

    Pros: performance

    Cons: radio

Advice: This is a great overall 4X4 family truck

This is the first Toyota I have ever owned. My two previous trucks were a 90 and 00 ranger. I feel that the Toyota is superior in many areas such as performance, looks and mechanical quality. However, I am dissapointed in the 'creature comforts' that accompany the tacoma. For exmaple, the cab is smaller and the seats are not as comnfortable as Ford. In addition, the console has an ancient feel/appearance. The radio also feels/sounds cheap. However, with both of my previous rangers having constant costly premature repairs, I decided to sacrafice creature comforts for mechanical quality. That is the reason I thougt I would give Toyota a chance. I feel that Ford had thier chance and the lost twice. I will never buy an american car again.

    2002 Toyota Tacoma - 4x2 Double-Cab

Pros: sits high with decent visibility for a compact truck. the looks, clean and functional. the back seat is large and relatively comfortable.

Cons: bad reliability, bad body, mediocre gas mileage for its size.

Advice: i have owned about a hundred cars in my lifetime. one was miserable and two were very bad. the two were toyotas, and one was this truck. check the vehicles out before purchase, since their reputation for quality is overrated.

an engine failure at 40k miles, shortly after having the toyota dealer do the 35k diagnostics was hard to take. make sure that you purchase the extended warranty, good chance you will need it. squeaks, rattles, inside and out from the first month after purchase. the body shell is as strong as empty soda cans; they will bend and dent if you look at them hard.

    2002 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab

    Pros: FOUR DOORS

    Cons: BOUNCY

Advice: Consider the TUNDRA if you can afford the extra cash (vehicle cost and gas)

The 4X4 V6 SR5 TRD, four-door, extra cab is wonderful. Driving a truck with all the benefits of 4X4 and having generous cargo space without worrying about whether or not you will be able to fit the vehicle in a parking space is very beneficial. The Tacoma has all the features one looks for when looking for a family truck. The rear doors give easy access to other family members. The 4X4 allows for a safe drive in rain and snow. The 4 1/2 ft (extendable to 6 ft) bed allows for plenty of space to carry a motorcycle, a lawn mower, or a snow blower. The V6, which I feel is a must for the automatic, is very smooth and responsive, and it provides the extra kick needed to get out of tight spots or rough terrain. Toyota could improve the Tacoma by having better (more comfortable) front and back seats, and making available a V6 with standard transmission for the four-door model. All in all the Tacoma four-door is a great truck, with all the right features and, very importantly, the quality of Toyota manufacturing.

    2002 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab

    Pros: The double cab

    Cons: Placement of the clock.

Advice: You not want to give it up for trade or sale. I plan to drive it for 200k miles.

Best Toyota truck (had 2 prior) I have driven to date. Handles like a truck but rides like a car. People expect a truck to ride like a truck but are surprised with the Tacoma double cab 4x4.

    2002 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab

    Pros: Room

    Cons: The constant mechanical problems

Advice: Make sure you have a good relation with the dealers service center.

I purchaced my Tacoma last Aug. and loved it. I did notice a rattle in the dash about a week later and took it in for servicing. They said it was the dash mounts to the frame that created the noise and it was in all their trucks. (I think I would remedy that if I were in charge) When winter came I turned on the heat to notice an air leak aroud the heater ducts. I have tried to get this fixed numerous times but to no avail. So if you don't mind buying a new car that rattles and leaks air this is the one for you.
