Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Gas mileage.
Advice: Get on a list as oon as possible.Try not to pay over list.I researched hybrids for several weeks and quickly decided that the Prius is it.I purchased it fully loaded including the Smart Key system. I have had at least a dozen cars in my lifetime and this one is the best yet. Quality is outstanding. I have over 10,000 miles on it and haven't heard even the tiniest squeek. The acceleration leaves a bit to be desired but it is still adequate on the expressways. Mileage for my type of driving is about 45 MPG.My advice is to get on the list as soon as possible.
Pros: Electric mode. I've never driven such a quiet car.
Cons: Upholstery. My old car had an all leather interior.
Advice: Test drive it, several times and for a good period of time. Get used to it and you'll never go back to a regular car.If you want great gas mileage PLUS a car with the lowest emissions PLUS power PLUS a midsize car with cargo space...this is the car! It drives just like a regular car, but you'll find you will be driving much more conservatively just to see how high you can push your mpg. The car had plenty of power going up hills. I could even pass cars going up hill. Great air conditioning. The seat is a comfortable height and the steering wheel is far enough away to be comfortable. Very sensitive handling. Driving this car is so relaxing, especially in slower city traffic when it is in electric mode because it is so quiet.
Pros: Fold down seats to make a huge flat space
Cons: That is is SO desirable that you can only go to a buyers broker to save money on the dealor's handling fee (aka. prep.
Advice: Buy earlyLooking for a car to feel good in. Look into the Prius, a FULL hybrid. When people think hybrid, this is what they are they are thinking about. It's midsize, ride's good, looks new & fresh, is reliable, come with a great name plate (Toyota), is extremely sought after & with greatest resale, yet I got mine in about week exactly as I wanted it. For my complete (!) run down of this car (vs. the Honda hybrid), go to care2.com & look under care2 connect, then see groups, ie. hybrid vehicle supporters (great debate).
Pros: Voted #1 Car Of 2005 in Europe & #1 Car Of 2004 in America!
Cons: The invidious colleagues arguing without really knowing what they are talking about!
Advice: Car of 2005 in Europe & car of 2004 in America!Absolutely my dream car, all digital with voice navigation system & Bluetooth technology, for this price - unbelievable! No wonder I have waited 8 month to get it, but it’s really worst it every penny!
Pros: gas economy
Cons: handling in snow
Advice: test drive it in snow, a must. Otherwise you don't know what you are getting in to.I own a 2005 Toyota prius, my dream car, so I thought. It handles perfect, except in snow; it hesitates so bad, that it becomes even dangerous. when you accelerate (in snow), it looks like the electric motor for some reason does not allow the gas engine to kick in and hesitates really bad, I can't emphasized enough how bad it is. To the point that it takes such a long time to pick up speed, that is literally dangerous to pull over a highway, I went to the dealer and I hopping is something fixable, but they have to test drive it in snow. I am very disappointed, I thought I got my dream car. I waited for almost a year for it. Please give me some kind of feedback and/or advise, the problem in strictly in snow I hope to hear from you soon. Julio
