Backed by a clean sweep of the podium, the auto industry was by far the top performer in the recently-released Best Global Green Brands Report from Interbrand. Toyota was the highest-ranking entry, as it has been for all three years of the study, with Interbrand noting that the automaker “...is a leading example of what can result—both in terms of performance and perception—when a company makes sustainability an integral part of its overarching business strategy.”

Other auto-related highlights from the latest report include Ford and Honda taking the silver and bronze, Ford and Nissan being singled out for their improvements, and Kia making its first appearance in the rankings.

The full list of automakers recognized by Interbrand this year for their ability to deliver real-world results that also match customer perceptions:

  • Toyota (#1)
  • Ford (#2)
  • Honda (#3)
  • Nissan (#5)
  • Volkswagen (#7)
  • BMW (#13)
  • Mercedes-Benz (#17)
  • Hyundai (#34)
  • Kia (#37)

“What makes the annual Best Global Green Brands Report unique and valuable is that it examines performance and perception in action,” added Jez Frampton, Interbrand’s global CEO. “The report provides leading brands with the insights they need to develop robust strategies—strategies that will not only drive their businesses forward, but also have a positive impact on the environment and communities in which those businesses operate.”
