Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The standard AM/FM , Casette/CD Combo Stereo System. It sounds very crisp and clean.
Cons: The 15' wheels on the LE model. I wish it had 16' wheels like the SE and XLE models. They should have at least offered it as an option.
Advice: You will be happy with this car. All of the independant consumer reviews have rated ity at the top of it's class. For other consumer reviews go to: http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/new/reviews/summ/index.cfm/id/23336.htmThis car is a great value for what you're getting. I like the fact that the car drives so smooth and it feels roomy. The interior is very lush and the radio is within raech. You don't feel cramped up in the Camry. Plenty of legroom in the back seats. Split fold-down back seat makes it easy to carry longer items that wouldn't normally fit. The trunk is very spacious and easy for anyone including kids to reach in and carry stuff out. The spare tire is a full size tire. That was a nice surprise. I am still deciding on whether to get the LE or XLE. I want the 16' alloy wheels, but don't want to spend all the extra money on options found on the XLE that I do not need. If I had the extra money it would be a no brainer.
Pros: The look and elegant style. It feels like an expensive luxury sedan.
Cons: Having to let my wife drive it.
Advice: Test drive one and possibly rent one like I did. You will be won over.Excellent car built with the highest quality standards. Test drive and a follow-up weekend rental from Hertz won us over. The car has the feel of luxury and rides so smooth. Very quiet engine and the cabin does a great job of blocking out road noise even on long highway trips.
Pros: Excellent interior layout and apearance. Everything was well within reach with plenty of cabin room and trunk space. Full-size concealed spare tire a big plus!
Cons: Cheap factory hubcaps that easily get damaged. I highly suggest upgrading to the factory alloy-wheel option for an additional $400.00. It's well worth it!
Advice: 4 cylinder model has plenty of punch and is great for fuel economy. I wouldn't spend the extra money on upgrading to a V6 model.I have had my new 2003 Camry LE (4-cyl auto) for about a month now. I bought it specifically for my wife and kids. Toyota has been been know for quality. My brother has a 1996 Camry LE with 86,000 miles on it and it still runs and handles like new. The 2003 Camry is a quality built car. The car drives smooth and handles city driving extremely well. The engine is among the most quiet of all the cars we test drove. It was also the most comfortable. The Honda Accord was our second choice, the Nissan altima our third and we hated the Chevy Impala because it felt too constraining and tight. The Nissan would have been our 2nd or 1st choice because we really liked the new look, however, the interior was built with cheaper materials and didn't compare to the Toyota or Honda interior. The Honda was a lot pricier than the Toyota with the same options.
Pros: Quiet and smooth
Cons: Aftermarket alarm system
Advice: Don't waste time looking at other carsI drive 30,000 miles per year in San Diego traffic. Before I sold my 1999 4 cylinder Camary LE I rented a 2002 for a week. Then I test drove every make and model car under $22,000. The more Cars I drove the more I wanted the 2002 Camary. 3 months ago I bought a 2002 4 cylinder Camary LE and after 8 thousand miles I couldn't be happier with my purchase. 2 weeks after I got the new Car I was rear ended on the Coronado Bridge by a Jeep Cherokee. I was hit Hard! I took the Canary back to Toyota of San Diego and they did a beautiful repair job. While I was waiting for my car I rented a similarly equipped and priced 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant. What a difference. My old 1999 Camary was a better car. I was so glad to get my new Camary back.
Pros: Quiet engine
Cons: Everything except the quiet engine.
Advice: Rent one and go on a 1 or 2 hour drive before buying. This is our 4th Camry, had '92 4cyl,'97 4cyl, and '99 6cyl. Went on 2 hr drive, front seats so uncomfortable, we were in pain for days after, due to new redesign I guess. Other Camrys were all great. Also,we hate the new design, everything is off and uncomfortable, armrests are too low, center console is too low, steering wheel is off center and pulls to one side. Interior material quality has decreased noticably, everything seems cheaper. Even if we had test driven it, which we didn't because of previous satisfaction with Camrys, we wouldn't have noticed the really bad redesign until we had a long drive. We did though notice the inferior inside finish at the showroom, but never imagined the ride would be so bad. We ended up returning the car at a loss and bought a 2003 Avalon, EXCELLENT car, nothing at all like the 2002 Camry. I would never recommend it to anyone. I would recommend any Camry before 2002.
Pros: driver seat comfort
Advice: strongly!!! be carefful. do not buy it!I bought this car two days ago. Today I went back to the dealer where I bought this car from beacause the transmission has a problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. They told me that other customers complained about the same thing and they need to upgrade the ECU (on board computer). The problem was not fixed. Service manager said that is nothing wrong with this car. Sales manager said that he cannot take the car back. Now I am waiting for the factory rep. to inspect my car. My advice is to look in another place if you want to buy a good car.
Pros: The new style
Cons: The mechanical performance.
Advice: Do not buy it if you are looking for good perfomance & reliabilty. The test drive on this vehicle took me to make the worse decision of my life I bought the car. Only to find out after approximately 1000 miles that there is a vibration, hesitation and trembling upon deceleration which makes driving the vehicle a real nuisance. After several trips to the dealer and applying for the lemon law the dealer explains this defect as a feature of the car. A feature that is not in any catalogue nor is disclosed at the time of purchase. This car is BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!BEWARE!!!!!.
