Changes for the 2014 Toyota 4Runner:

The 2014 Toyota 4Runner receives a long list of upgrades, including revised exterior styling, redesigned aluminum wheels, and new soft-touch interior materials. Better headlights and LED taillights are standard for the 2014 4Runner, along with a roof rack, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Optitron gauges, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. The 4Runner’s rear seat passengers also benefit from additional knee room this year.

New Entune touchscreen radios debut in the 2014 4Runner, equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and music streaming capability, and in the luxury-themed Limited model the infotainment system includes a premium 15-speaker JBL sound system, HD Radio, satellite radio, iTunes tagging capability, Entune Apps Suite, and a navigation system.

Model Lineup:

The 2014 Toyota 4Runner is offered in SR5, Trail, and Limited trim levels. The basic model is the SR5, the Limited model is loaded up with luxuries, and the Trail model is designed to serve as a serious off-roader. The SR5 and Trail models are available in standard and Premium sub-trims this year, the latter equipping the SUV with leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and a premium audio system with Entune App Suite technology and a navigation system.

Engines and Transmissions:

Every 2014 4Runner is equipped with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine generating 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 278 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. In the SR5 and Limited models, a 5-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to the rear wheels through an automatic limited-slip rear differential. The Trail model is equipped with a standard part-time 4-wheel-drive system with Active Traction Control.

The SR5 can be optioned with the Trail’s 4WD system. Limited models are offered with an optional full-time 4WD system that includes Active Traction Control and a Torsen limited-slip locking center differential. The 4Runner Trail comes standard with a Multi-Terrain ABS system, and can be fitted with a Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System for improved off-road performance. The 4Runner Limited comes standard with an X-REAS sport suspension.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

According to the EPA, the 2014 4Runner is rated to return 19 mpg in combined driving for the 2WD model, and 18 mpg for the 4WD model.

Safety Ratings:

Due to the changes made to the 2014 4Runner, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) must performed new crash tests on the SUV. As this summary was written, neither had done so.
