Terrific vehicle. No problems
Pros: back window control; comfort
Cons: gas mileage
Gas mileage an issuePros: Style
Cons: Driveshaft thump clunk noise;customer service
Advice: Never buy this model.
I bougt 2003 4Runner limited V8 4WD,basically its performance OK,big noise, hard to listen 8 speakers audio system,The most trouble is driveshaft thump clunk noise during stop and go,Toyota don't want to fix it after seral times effort,I heard 2006 model doesn't correct the problem yet ( Don't know about 2007 ), but Lexus fixed GX470.Check other forum website before you buy it.I was warned by customer service for the potential e-mail ' prohibitive' during comunication with customer service ( I requested Toyota upper management reply my e-mail.).Toyota just pass the hot ball between dealer and Toyota customer service.Pros: Styling
Cons: nothing
Advice: Test drive all the SUV's and trucks and decide what you want most for the money...reliability is always #1 with Toyota.
Have previously owned 4 Tacomas...Very reliable...never had any problems...Test drove a 2006 limited 4 runner and found it more comfortable with extra ammenities...it's worth the price...Afterall, it's a Toyota. We now are proud owners of the 2006 4Runner.Pros: up hill assist.
Cons: The SR5 model doesnt offer leather
Advice: Best buy all around, Truck gets and deserves lots of respect.
I bought a new 4Runner in July of 2005. Great truck, it got the 4.7 V8. The truck handles very good, is very quick at all ranges of the rpm and seems to get smoother and smoother every day. The V8 sounds perfect it feel like a medium bulit man with bruce lee power and ability. The ride on all types of roads is great and soft. I have taken mine in the sand dunes of Pismo Beach. truck has many high tech features that make its 4WD ability even better. I was about to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee but then fell in love with the 4runner. it gains much more respect then other SUVS in this range. Has really good appeal and resale Value. LOVE THE TRUCKPros: The 4Runner exudes quality; the Japanese still hammer us Americans and our domestic vehicles.
Cons: High step in and running boards don't really help with ingress or egress.
Advice: Rent one for a few days before you buy and you will be sold like I was.
Recently rented a 4Runner while visiting Arizona(rented in Phoenix, drove to Grand Canyon for 3 day visit). This was my first experience with a 4 Runner; I have always been an Explorer owner. I was very impressed by the quality of the 4Runner. Excellent ride for a truck based SUV, very good noise suppression, good acceleration from the standard V6, even at altitude. Great interior. My wife loved this vehicle also. Next purchase will definitely be a 4Runner.
