The Japanese automaker Toyota is known for building high quality vehicles that provide owners with worry-free reliability; however the top selling automaker in the U.S. recently recalled 7.43 million models ranging from the 2007 Camry Hybrid to the 2009 Scion xB. The problem comes from a window switch that when installed lacks proper lubrication and causes the toggle to feel sticky. Owners have even filed complaints about the smell of smoke coming from the window control and in some cases fire.
This is the largest recall to come from the manufacturer in Toyota’s 75-year automotive history and could impact their recovery from the recent catastrophic events in Japan as well as past recalls ranging from faulty floor mats to unintended acceleration. Fortunately the automaker is making good on their vehicles and offering a fix at local dealerships. Apparently Toyota mechanics will be able to apply the grease evenly where possible and replace entire control units if necessary.
The following Toyota models are affected:
2007 to 2008 Yaris
2007 to 2009 RAV4
2007 to 2009 Tundra
