Advice: If you don't want to join the SUV/Minvan crowd, this is a great alternative. We were looking for an SUV/Minivan alternative. I know a few Outback owners who loved them, and I liked the styling changes for 2005. We wound up getting the 2.5i wagon. I really like the car and would recommend it to anyone who wants a safe car that gives a real feel of confidence in bad weather. Every time it snows, I clean off the car and go for a drive before the plows come out :) Up Side : AWD, Lots of airbags, Nice looks, Nice handling, Sports Shifter (4spd Auto) Down Side : Brakes lacking somewhat, not as roomy as some others, Mileage a little weak, 3rd party Stereo upgrades next to impossible at this time.
Pros: all wheel drive, air bags, safety rating, large sunroof
Cons: self dimming mirror w/compass should be standard, also low center armrest heating vehicle is very erratic in cold weather. too hot or too cold
Advice: drive on a long trip (may not be possible) but seats may be uncomfortable for someHave had 2.5i ltd wagon for two months now, just hit 5500 miles. Mostly highway driving. Have averaged 24.8 mpg so far. Hoping it will improve as weather gets warmer. Took a while to get used to extremely low armrest in center. Not going to shell out $150 to buy the extension kit. As I get more miles on vehicle I can see it 'moving out' a little faster. In a way wish I had gotten either the 6 or the turbo, but would have had to spend 3 to 4000 more & I hear they don't get great gas mileage. Just as well I didn't drive the turbo as I probably would have fallen in love with it. Great in the snow!
Pros: Body style, fit and finish
Cons: left leg foot rest
Advice: test drive it on curvy roads, you'll like the handlingI am a 1st time buyer of a subaru and believe that this will not be the last subaru I own. Other family members/friends have owned subarus and all have been very satisfied. I have owned the 2.5i wagon now for two days and can't wait to drive in the recent snow here in CA. The Kids love the car and their new found space(traded in a BMW 325i) and couldn't be happier I did. I'm 6'-2' tall and have ample leg room. The left side foot rest could have been better designed for tall people, but that's my only complaint. ENJOY!
Cons: The standard Alarm system could be better
Advice: Dont pay more then invoice.I have had my 2005 Subaru 2.5i Limited Wagon just over 1 week. It is a great riding car. This is my 3rd Subaru. I miss the traditional Subaru styling like the 2001/2002 models. But the car is still great. I average around 28 mpg. Its a great car everyone likes it. Buy a Subaru and you will never want any other car. The arm-rest needs some rethinking by Subaru. Its short and to low. The keys and remote are big and bulky. I miss the weather band radio.
Pros: AWD/ sportshift
Advice: Buy it!!! they are the best around! When driving this vehicle,I found it to be the best in its class. The AWD is just awesome, with the winters like they are in Pennsylvania, I've passed amany better vehicles stuck in the snow. But never another Subaru!
Cons: Automatic HVAC system
Advice: You must test drive this fantastic machine! This is one amazing machine! The combination of a torquey boxer engine and turbo give it amazingly civilized low-end performance for normal driving... but when that turbo kicks in -- watch out! Tubo lag is almost non-existent. This is the smoothest, most forgiving manual transmission I have ever used! Fit and finish is outstanding and the doors give a hugely satisfying 'thump' when you close them. I had a '99 BMW 323 and I like this Subaru more! The performance/features/quality/price ratio simply can't be beat. Get one now!!
Pros: Having a car that never gets old.
Cons: ....Ceiling fabric
Advice: Get the turbo gauge (to predict lag), the short sifter, and the arm rest.Ok....where to start.... This car is noisy, lets you feel road bumps and is not the ideal luxury car. However, this car is something that most cars will never be - a sports car that is truely great in bad conditions, that holds a ton of cargo and yet will...ok 0 - 60 in 5.4 seconds. CONS: -Noise -Cheap ceiling fabric -Cd player glitchy once in a while -turbo lag PROS: -Drivers's seat feels like sitting in a fighter jet. Everything adjusts. With the short throw shifter and the arm rest, you can shift with your fingertips! The steering wheel is so soft and shaped perfectly. Wonderful Ergonomics! Climate control is nice! Heater/AC work great. Defroster is fast. Speakers are offset by the noise of the car somewhat, but are high quality. -Over 3000 RPM, acceleration is absolutly incredible; akin to engaging warp drive. Gear ratios picked very well though modulating the throttles interesting with turbo lag. When steering, the car simply does as ordered - no tilting. Great car in traffic; able to shift lanes quickly. Good visibility. Watch the speed though. This car feels at 100 as most do at 45. The turbo sound is intoxicating. Meets EPA mileage. -I packed up my entire life and moved across the country in this vehicle. Plenty of room. Good performance when fully loaded. Great places to strap thing down (and you'll need to in this car) -You can feel the road. AWD works great too. Good ground clearance and somehow low center of gravity. Feels very solid - very rigid. No chassis rattles. -Not a cop finder. In fact, the innocent looks make it that much funnier after you burn the modded civic at the light. Great exterior. Beautiful machine.
