Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Very easy to handle--parking, etc.
Cons: the RATTLE that has developed.
Advice: Drive the Subaru before purchasing any other SUV.In the last six months my car has developed a rattle that appears to be coming from the passenger side of the car. What can be done to eliminate this rattle. Other than the rattle I am very pleased with the car.
Pros: Large sun roof and 6 disc CD changer
Cons: Seat comfort.
Advice: Make sure you take and extended test drive -- not just around the block. If the dealer had checked tire pressure, I would have liked the vehicle even better. Tires had 40-45lbs instead of 29/28 which made the ride harsh and noisy. With adjusted tire pressure, the ride, quiet, handling improved markedly. It's hard to believe this is a 4cyld since it drives more like a 6 except the rpm's are greater but still extremely quiet. The power driver's seat is a must have to adjust for a comfortable position and the rear seat room is a bit sparse.
Pros: who cares with all the other problems
Cons: drive train is very unrefined - engine hesitates especially in hot weather, transmission has rough downshifts
Advice: don't buy oneEngine hesitates especially in hot weather and worse with AC on - hesitation can be up to 4 seconds - very dangerous when you are trying to pull into traffic and the damn thing won't move for 3 or 4 seconds. Now that it is cooler the hesitation is not as bad but still happens when the defroster is on, meaning that the AC on on. Subaru is supposedly working on a fix. Lots of rattles from dash, headliner and from the back. Transmission is unrefined, because it sometimes downshifts roughly when you are slowing down for a stop. Its newest trick is the throttle not closing when you take your foot off the gas. You can be going 40 or 60 for instance, take your foot off the gas and the car goes merrily along at the same speed, just as if you had the cruise control on. No word from the dealer as to what the problem may be.
Pros: Agility and crispness of handling make this vehicle tough to beat.
Cons: Light the vanity mirrors for the ladies.
Advice: Consider purchasing the Premium Package, it is well worth the added investment. This will get you heated seats, mirrors, and windshield band, 6 CD changer, four wheel disc brakes, power driver's seat, bodacious moon roof, and automatic climate control.Subaru has it right for niche markets that require well-engineered vehicles in severe climates. We purchased a 2004 Subaru Outback and the 2006 Forester was absolutely the right addition for our family. The Forester offers a much tighter yet responsive ride and the visibility is phenomenal. While still a new car, we can tell this vehicle and combination of vehicles is a winner!
Pros: Outside appearance, cd player, a/c, power windows
Advice: If you have any back problems, don't buy this car.I own a 2006 Subaru Forester... ver nice looking car, but terribly uncomfortable seats. I don't know how I would manage a very long drive being so uncomfortable in the seat. Why didn't Subaru think of adding something to the seat... like comfort???
