Subaru Issues A Recall On 2005 - 2009 Legacy and Outback For Brake Issues

Brake Line Corrosion Is The Concern

If you’re the owner of a 2005-2009 Subaru Legacy or Subaru Outback, and you live in the snow belt, you may want to pay close attention to this story. Subaru has announced a recall on a number of 2005-2009 Subaru Legacys and Outbacks due to concerns of brake fluid leaking from the brake lines. The problem comes from salt water that can splash onto the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector. Over time, the brake lines will corrode and possibly cause brake fluid to leak out. That in turn will cause the stopping distance to increase, along with the risk of a crash. Subaru is still determining how many vehicles will be affected in this recall, but they have said the vehicles in this recall were built between December 2003 through April 2009 and are currently, or formerly, registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

Subaru will be contacting owners affected by this recall, but hasn’t said when at this time. The fix involves replacing the brake lines if any leakage is found, and rustproofing the affected area for free. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Subaru at 800-782-2783.
