One of the great things about the Long Beach Grand Prix is that it’s on Autobytel’s home turf, so Editor-in-Chief Michelle Naranjo was able to spend some time making the rounds. Michelle caught up with SRT Viper race Kuno Wittmer for a chat about the car and about the racing experience. This Autobytel video gets up close to the SRT Viper GTS-R race car, as well as its driver. Michelle reminisces about seeing Kuno Wittmer driving the SRT Viper when the car was actually revealed in New York in 2012. The Viper race car hasn’t changed much since then, although the car was subjected to a long and arduous testing process to make sure it was in proper shape for racing. Kuno Wittmer explained that every system and major component on the Viper, including the engine, transmission, wheels, tires, and suspension underwent the rigorous testing process. In all, the SRT Viper GTS-R went through a total of twelve full days of testing over the course of the summer of 2012. A few tweaks have been made to the Viper GTS-R since the last time Autobytel saw it, though. The ALMS series has different restrictions, which enables the Viper to go a little quicker than it did before. The SRT Viper GTS-R race car still has challenges ahead, though, including the 24 Hours of LeMans.
