Los Angeles: Land of the Leased. It is no surprise that the Los Angeles Auto Show is where luxury cars come to show their faces for the first time. The sedans on show at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show all incorporate some level of luxury. From the all-new practical but handsome Subaru Impreza to the epitome of Mercedes-Benz technology and luxury, the Maybach, there are a lot of interesting sedans on view this year.

The 2016 Cadillac ATS-V expands Cadillac’s performance program down to the entry-level, giving the popular ATS sedan and coupe a high horsepower makeover. The ATS-V features a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 that’s good for 455 horses and 445 lb-ft of torque, managed by either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual with no-lift shifting, auto rev-matching, and launch control. A magnetically-adjustable suspension system, the availability of a carbon fiber package, Recaro seats, and a track package with a performance data recorder are also offered with the Cadillac ATS-V.
What changed? The Cadillac ATS-V is an all-new high performance model for the brand.
When is it available? Later in 2015.
How much? The new 2016 ATS-V will start at around $63,000.
As the competition among premium German sport sedans hits new heights, the 2016 Audi A6 gets a fairly significant round of under-the-skin upgrades for the new model year, along with some subtle styling changes.
What changed? The 2016 Audi A6 2.0T entry model welcomes a new standard four-cylinder turbo, while the 3.0T and S6 get improvements to their V6 and V8 powerplants; the results include +20-hp gains for each and outputs of 252, 333 and 450 horses, respectively. There’s better performance from the car’s infotainment system, too, thanks to 4G LTE connectivity and mobile wi-fi capability. Also in the mix is enhanced functionality for a number of the A6’s driver-assistance features, a revised grille complemented by redesigned and now-standard LED headlights, and fresh cabin-design themes.
When is it available? Later in 2015.
How much? TBD.
The 2016 Audi A7 is the “five-door coupe” version of the A6 sport sedan, with both a slightly sleeker shape and the added versatility of a hatchback-style rear cargo opening. Unsurprisingly, then, it sees most of the same mid-cycle adjustments as its four-door sibling.
What changed? As with the A6, engineers powered up the V6 and V8 powerplants in the A7 3.0T and S7, but remember, the 3.0T is the starting point of the A7 roster, which also boasts the 560-hp RS 7 at the top end. The A7 range also follows in the tire tracks of the new A6 team with 4G connectivity and a mobile wi-fi hotspot, along with upgrades to its “Side Assist,” “Active Lane Assist,” “Secondary Collision Assist” and head-up display technologies.
When is it available? Later in 2015.
How much? TBD.
An early pioneer among compact premium sedans, the Acura ILX sharpens its lux leanings for the 2016 model year by adding some significant new features—and getting rid of an old one.
What changed? The 2016 Acura ILX drops the current 150-hp entry engine, making the previously optional 201-hp I4 the standard choice, and the only transmission will be a new eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic that is the first in the industry with a torque converter for “smoother, more powerful launches.” Acura’s new Jewel Eye signature LED headlights will be standard as well as part of a minor yet effective style upgrade. The tech department also upgraded the infotainment system, developed a new navigation app as an alternative to the full Acura Navigation setup, and deployed the full range of AcuraWatch driver-assistance measures.
When is it available? Early 2015.

The 2015 Porsche Panamera Turbo S Executive Exclusive Series is a special edition of the German luxury brand’s four-door luxury sedan that rides on an extended wheelbase and offers unique chestnut brown leather that matches the paint hue on the lower door panels. In addition to its custom paint job, the 570 horsepower Turbo S Executive Exclusive Series features a full set of high tech options, 20-inch rims, and standard all-wheel drive. 0-60-mph takes a very quick 3.6 seconds with this beast’s pedal mashed to the floor.
What changed? The Porsche Panamera Turbo S Executive Exclusive Series grafts a series of cosmetic and feature changes onto the standard Turbo S Executive model.
When is it available? Next year – but you’ll have to hurry, because only 100 editions of this Panamera will ever be built.
How much? Pricing has not yet been announced for the Porsche Panamera Turbo S Executive Exclusive Series.
On the heels of the launch of the revised Dodge Charger sedan comes a refreshed Chrysler 300 sedan, the American four-door with the iconic name dating back to 1955. With more feature content than ever, and revised powertrain options that Chrysler promises are class-leading, there are more reasons than ever to consider the 300 sedan.
What’s changed?The 300 and 300S benefit from many of the enhancements on the recently revised Dodge Charger sedan, such as a revised powertrain that comprises a 292-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and 363-hp 5.7-liter V-8 paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive remains an option, and rear-wheel drive is standard. From a looks perspective, the updated 300 model lineup is sharper but recognizably a 300, inside and out. A host of technological enhancements and active safety technology, including forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, will be available. Curated interior packages, like those on the Lincoln MKZ Black Label, will make their debut for 2015.
When is it available? There’s no word yet on the launch date for the revised 300.
How much? The MSRP for the entry-level 300 Limited model is $31,395, all the way up to $42,395 for the new 300C Platinum trim. The starting price is the same as the model that it replaces.
Mercedes-Benz chose to show off Mercedes-Maybach, its re-entry into the uber-luxury market simultaneously at the Los Angeles and Guangzhou auto shows. The first model in the Mercedes-Maybach lineup, the S600, is based heavily on the S-Class sedan.
What’s changed? Not intending to fill the void in the ultra-luxury space left by the previous Maybach models, the V-12-powered Mercedes-Maybach S600 will instead offer S-Class buyers a more luxurious experience in a familiar lineup. Expect premium materials inside to rival business-class flight accommodations, and a mildly revised exterior with a bespoke C-pillar and badging. The model is stretched slightly over the conventional S-Class sedan, which is hardly conventional itself.
When is it available? The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is scheduled to go on sale in early 2015.
How much? Pricing has yet to be announced, but expect it to compete with the Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
The second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class was downright beautiful, building on the shape that redefined the four-door coupe segment, but every good design must evolve. That’s the premise behind the facelifted CLS that debuted earlier this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and is making its U.S. premiere in Los Angeles.
What’s changed?The changes to the CLS-class are both on the surface level and under the skin. A revised front fascia is the biggest exterior change, while the interior gets Mercedes-Benz’s new infotainment system and screen—in addition to Steering Assist and Distronic Plus technology. A 329-hp, 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 is the new base engine, while the V-8-powered CLS550 and CLS63 AMG soldier on.
When is it available? Expect to see the redone CLS coupes at dealerships very soon, before winter.
How much? Pricing for the facelifted CLS has not yet been announced, but expect it to keep parity with the current model, somewhere between E-class and S-class.
Replacing TSX and TL in Acura’s lineup, the 2015 Acura TLX is the marque’s mid-sized offering. Presented with a choice of two engines, along with front-drive and all-wheel drive powertrains; the TLX is quite the versatile choice. Base models use a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 206 horsepower and 182 ft-lbs of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Optional is a 3.5-liter, 290-horsepower V6 engine with 267 ft-lbs of torque, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and a choice of front-or all-wheel drive. Standard features include LED headlights and brake lights, all-wheel steering, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats. Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone app integration are also included in the base price. Options include collision mitigation, lane keeping assist, and smart cruise control.

Unquestionably the loveliest Chrysler model of the modern era—and quite possibly one of the best-looking of all time—the 2015 Chrysler 200 is sleek of line, enjoyable to drive, and boasts a delightful interior treatment. Power comes from a choice of either a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine producing 184 horsepower and 173 ft-lbs of torque; or a 3.6-liter V6 producing 295 horsepower and 262 ft-lbs of torque. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive can be had with the V6, while the inline four can only be had with front-drive. Standard equipment includes automatic halogen projector headlamps, LED taillamps, active grille shutters, keyless entry and start, a tilt and telescoping steering column, an electric parking brake, and a rotary e-shift dial for the automatic transmission.

Back in 2008, Hyundai’s Genesis was the beginning of a whole new story for the company. Now, with the mostly-new 2015 Hyundai Genesis, a new chapter in the story of the value-conscious luxury car begins. Power comes from a choice of two engines; the base powerplant is a 311-horsepower 3.8-liter V6—capable of generating 293 ft-lbs of torque. The big engine is a 5.0-liter V8 delivering 420 horsepower on premium-unleaded fuel and 407 on regular unleaded. Maximum torque output is 383 ft-lbs on premium and 372 ft-lbs on regular. Available features include an in-dash eight-inch monitor featuring navigation and a rearview camera; hill hold control, power folding outside mirrors, a driver’s knee airbag, and a height adjustable power operated passenger seat with power lumbar.

The 2015 redesign of the Hyundai Sonata endows it with considerably more refinement, a nicer interior treatment, better handling, and an even better value proposition. The base powerplant is a 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 178 ft-lbs of torque. The performance oriented offering is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four producing 245 horsepower and 260 ft-lbs of torque. Both of these are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The economy-minded engine offering is a 1.6-liter turbo four with 177 horsepower and 195 ft-lbs of torque. A seven-speed automated manual transmission is paired with this engine. All 2015 Sonata models use front-wheel drive.

Kia’s largest ever luxury sedan comes packed with the sort of features you’d expect from a high end sedan of its nature. However, the K900 also offers another feature one doesn’t usually expect to find in the high rolling class—a comparatively low price. Of course, this has been part of Kia’s brilliant marketing strategy to win the hearts and minds of the American motoring public since the brand was introduced to these shores. The very nicely finished rear-drive sedan uses a 420-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 and a thoroughly modern eight-speed automatic transmission. A 311-horsepower, 3.8-liter V6 will be offered later in the year. Myriad comfort and convenience touches include soft-closing doors, genuine wood trim, heated and ventilated leather seats, and a brilliant Lexicon audio system.

Thanks to the all-new front-wheel drive 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA Class model’s positioning as the entry-level Mercedes, the company had room to take the C Class cars a bit farther upmarket with the 2015 redesign. For this reason, you’ll find the MBZ C sedans now possess more luxury features as well a larger footprint. Longer, wider, and roomier, the C Class is now a step above where it previously resided. Power comes from a choice of two engines. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four makes 241 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs, while the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 makes 329 horsepower and 354 ft-lbs. All-wheel drive is standard with this engine, while the four can be had with rear- or all-wheel drive. A seven-speed automatic handles transmission chores.

Those looking for overt visual cues to reference the improvements to Subaru’s flagship will have to be particularly eagle-eyed. Subaru improved the interior’s materials quality and added cushioning where occupants come into contact with it. The Legacy also now boasts more passenger space and a new larger trunk to boot (no pun intended). The windshield was shifted forward a bit, and the seats are mounted slightly higher in the car to improve outward visibility. Power comes from a choice of two familiar engines. The base powerplant is a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four with 175 horsepower and 174 ft-lbs of torque. The 3.6-liter flat six makes 256 horsepower and 247 ft-lbs. A continuously variable transmission routes power to the Legacy’s all-wheel drive system.

A 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 ft-lbs of torque is the base engine. A 3.5-liter V6 with 268 horsepower and 248 ft-lbs is the “big” engine. The 2015 Dodge Charger becomes the quickest, fastest, and most powerful V8 production four-door sedan currently offered, thanks to the HEMI Hellcat’s 707 horsepower and 650 ft-lbs of torque—as first applied to Dodge Challenger. An eight-speed automatic transmission routes power to its rear wheels. "This car really, absolutely does not have a business case to it," said Tim Kuniskis, president and CEO of Dodge and SRT Brands, at the unveiling. "This is a car no customer has ever asked us to build. But sometimes you just need to disregard the data." You gotta love the guy—right? Zero to 60 is quoted at 3.7 seconds and Charger Hellcat’s top speed has been pegged at 204 mph.

Handsome, powerful, luxurious, and comfortable, Infiniti’s Q70 is the model previously known as Infiniti M. For the 2015 model year, Q70 is offered in two wheelbase sizes (standard and the long wheelbase Q70L), as well as with both rear- and all-wheel drive. Until Infiniti gets a true full-size competitor to the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS, and Mercedes S Class, the Q70L has been plugged into the Infiniti lineup as a stopgap measure. Three powertrains are presented, with a 3.7-liter V6 making 330 horsepower as the base offering. The 5.6-liter V8 makes 420 horsepower, while the hybrid system teams an electric motor with the V6 to make a total of 360 horsepower. Each powerplant is offered with all-wheel drive. First shown at the New York Auto Show in April, the ultimate version of Audi’s RS7 high performance four-door hatchback coupe comes with an engine bay stuffed full of a 560-horsepower twin turbocharged V8 capable of generating 516 ft-lbs of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission routes the output from the engine to all four wheels. Of course, if you’re familiar with Audi’s RS7, you’re well aware of these specs. The Rolls sedan for those who prefer to drive themselves gets a bit of a makeover going into the 2015 model year. On the mechanical front, the new eight-speed automatic transmission is said to communicate with global positioning satellites to predict gear changes before the need becomes apparent. Minor styling changes update the look of the regal automobile. The headlights and turn signals have been reworked and the hood has been mildly resculpted. The suspension system has been revised to improve handling while preserving the Ghost’s genteel ride quality. The headlights default to high beams and dim automatically when faced with oncoming traffic. Power comes from a 563-horsepower, 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 producing 575 ft-lbs of torque.

But before you think it terribly uncivilized, also know Bentley has improved the fuel efficiency of the engine, as well as reduced its emissions. To help contain the added power, Mulsanne Speed’s sport mode stiffens the suspension and adjusts the steering for more control at elevated velocities, while permitting genteel wafting abut when all-out clout isn’t warranted.

BMW’s M3 is redone for 2015. Just as with the two-door BMW M4, a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine producing 425 horsepower and 406 ft-lbs of torque with a 7,600 rpm redline powers the four-door M3. Transmission choices are either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch automated manual with a launch control function. The rear drive BMW M3 features an active rear differential to maximize traction, and a carbon fiber reinforced plastic driveshaft. Its electro-mechanical steering system provides the multi-mode advantages of electronic steering, while preserving the mechanical feel enthusiasts appreciate. Three settings are available to the driver. The optional Adaptive M suspension system offers the same three settings; Comfort, Sport, and Sport +. Carbon brakes with gold calipers are offered as an option.

Jaguar has tried before to compete directly with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class with the Jaguar X-Type. With the upcoming Jaguar XE however, the marque feels it has a better shot. Given the company currently has no real competitor in that crucial segment; much is riding upon the success of the Jaguar XE. Boasting looks close to those of its larger XF sibling, the 2016 Jaguar XE features aluminum intensive construction, a 340-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6, and the now de rigueur240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four. Additionally, the Jaguar XE offers a laser-based head-up display, a stereo camera for driver’s aid systems, automated parking, a new eight-inch infotainment system, and Jaguar All Surface Progress Control (AKA advanced traction control).
What changed? Everything and nothing, it’s an all-new model.

Nissan’s Altima offers both comfort and engaging driving dynamics informed by a pair of enthusiastic engines that also have the advantage of offering reasonable fuel economy. Continuing the Nissan’s Jekyll/Hyde theme, Altima also delivers great handling with a smooth ride. It does well in crash testing too. Power comes from a choice of engines—a 2.5-liter four with 182 horsepower and 180 ft-lbs of torque, or a 3.5-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 251 ft-lbs of torque. Both front drive powertrains use continuously variable transmissions. Standard features include keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth audio and telephony, plus full power accessories. Available features include remote ignition, dual-zone climate control, and a sunroof.

When it comes to prestige, refinement, luxury, power, style, and technology, the benchmark in full-size luxury sedans is the highly vaunted Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It’s the one the others are all trying to out do, when they do what they do. For the 2015 model year, the deeply revered marque is broadening its awe-inspiring flagship’s lineup with a V12-powered model, a plug-in hybrid variant, and a two-door coupe—which just happens to be one of the most beautiful cars ever offered. The model’s COMAND infotainment controller has been revised to make it even more user friendly. The high performance AMG models get a head up display, along with carbon ceramic brakes as electives. The model’s cabin air filtration and its interior fragrance systems have been declared standard equipment.
