In a few weeks, Toyota will hold their annual Long Beach Grand Prix Toyota Pro/Celebrity Event which pits celebrities and pro drivers in a race to help raise money for children's hospitals. This year’s event features a huge change as Toyota announced that the Scion FR-S would be the race car this year. This marks the first RWD vehicle used in the race since it was first started back in 1991. Toyota showed off what the race-prepped FR-S looks like at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. Most of the changes to the Scion FR-S race car deal with making the vehicle safer on the track. There is a full roll-cage, fire suppression system, a five-point harness, battery kill switch, and fake headlights. Other changes to the FR-S race car include eighteen-inch cast aluminum TRD wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires, TRD spoiler, and a TRD exhaust system. Craig Taguchi of Scion gives us a walkthrough and talks about what goes into making a Scion FR-S race car.
