Pricing for 2014 Nissan Maxima Holds Steady at $31,000

The industry’s original “four-door sports car” hasn’t changed much in recent years, but neither has its MSRP, and both trends continue with the 2014 Nissan Maxima. The Nissan brand’s flagship sedan will once again start at $31,000—the same as during the 2013 model year—and its feature list has been adjusted as follows:

• A new Limited Edition package is available for the 2014 Nissan Maxima S, bundling Xenon headlights with smoked lenses, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a Dark Hyper Silver finish, fog lights, sideview mirror turn signals, metallic trim, a rearview-mirror compass, and a rear spoiler; the cost is $750.
• Moving up to the 2014 Nissan Maxima SV, standard content has been upgraded to include a rearview monitor, USB connectivity, a seven-inch QVGA-display monitor, USB connectivity, Xenon headlights and satellite-radio capability (although the SiriusXM subscription is sold separately). On the other hand, it must be noted that, unlike the S model, the 2014 Nissan Maxima SV does endure a price jump, of $850, and will start at $34,090.
• Nissan also introduces two new exterior colors to the Maxima roster—Gun Metallic and Midnight Garnet

But while most of what’s happening here is fine-tuning, the powertrain of the 2014 Nissan Maxima remains pretty fine even as it is. Drivers enjoy a 3.5-liter V6 in the Maxima, along with a performance-tuned CVT with available paddle shifters, with the combination able to deliver 290 hp, 261 lb.-ft. of torque and a 0-60 time of about 5.8 seconds. True, a Hyundai Genesis Sedan is more powerful and faster, but it’s also $3,200 more expensive in its entry-level configuration; in contrast, the other mainstream vehicle in the Maxima’s semi-premium sedan niche, the Toyota Avalon, is $10 less expensive but notably slower.
