Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Body style/speed
Cons: Hard to get into tight parking spaces.
Advice: Not a family car; not bad on gas if you keep your foot light but the power is there when you need it or just want it!I LOVE DRIVING MY TRANS AM! I had always wanted a great sports car and had always admired the Firebird/Trans Am's so when the dream finally became reality I was like a new mother with her new baby. Nothing like that V-8 rumble and the way it handles when speeding down the interstate or around curves is awesome! Definitely the best car I've ever owned. A true shame that they are going to stop making them. What's up with that? By the way, I am a woman, yes a WOMAN who loves to drive FAST CARS!!
Pros: The power of the LS1.
Cons: The cold start piston slap in the LS1 that GM refuses to fix.
Advice: Get a written guarantee that they will FIX the car if it starts knocking after a few thousand miles. All the published specs for this car are wrong. This is what this car is REALLY capable of: Showroom stock 12.9 @ 107 mph down the track. (2.03 60ft) 31 mpg on the highway 23 in town (light foot). The horsepower rating is too low. These cars are putting out the same power as the Vette. Dyno tests show 300-320hp at the wheels! Handles great! Hurst shifter is VERY nice! Awesome stereo for factory. There is no better sound than the rumble of a V8. This is the PERFECT performance car under $40K. Thank you GM for an awesome car! It is truly a shame you are no longer going to make them. This may be the last GM vehicle I ever buy. None of the others appeal to me at all.
Pros: I loved the Hurst shifter, VERY nice.
Cons: The car's turning radius is tighter to the left than to the right.
Advice: This is one of the best drag racers in its class, don't tell the cops.My only complaint is that the car has a tighter turning radius to the left than it dose to the right. Otherwise I love the V-8 engine with the big hod scoops for the ram air. It acceleates nicely for a stock car and the styling is nice too, if not a little too rounded in some places. But this is what GM sports cars are all about, get some engine power going, and scare all those little Honda boys. As a former Civic owner I know that the Firebird is a hell of a lot nicer. The Hurst Shifter is VERY nice. Unlike some other shifters, there is no screwing around to find the gear you want. With Hurst, you think it, you got it. You can bet I'll be spending some time in my garage this summer. By the time I'm through with it, it will be a whole new car.
Pros: overall appearance
Cons: I am looking to increase the horsepower
Advice: Get the V8 with Ram AirI own a 1999 Firebird and it is everything I hoped for in a sports car for under 30,000. I blows the Mustang away in appearance and drive. The Camaro is nice but I have always admired the Firebird. It handles the a sports car should. Tight cornering and solid drive. At high speeds it handles best.
