Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: the good gas mileage
Cons: the performance
Advice: Do NOT buy this vehicleI would never buy another Nissan vehicle again. My first experience was the first car that I ever purchased out of college. That was the Sentra. About three months after I purchased the vehicle I started having problems with the igition. It would take like 2 to 3 times of starting the vehicle before it started. I took it into the shop but they could never find anything wrong with it. After missing work several times and 4 times of getting the run around at the dealership I decided to trade the vehicle in. I had had the vehicle less than a year so I owed more than it was worth. The salespeople at the dealership convinced me that I would get the best trade in deal with them. I traded it in for a 2004 Nissan Xterra and now I am having the same problems with it. After speaking to other people who also own xterras and sentras, I realize that they are also having the same exact problems and they are getting the same run around at the Nissan dealerships. I would never buy another Nissan vehicle again.
Cons: gas milage
Advice: if your commute is more then 20 miles don't buy itNothing like being bias. The car is awsome not doubt but there are many problems with it too. Heater box that doesn't work. Transmision wine that nissan is in specs but makes the drive a pain but they say just turn up the radio. Brakes tend to go real early in this car. Tire suck rip them off right away and put some all season on there. I drive 400-500 miles a week have put 41000 in two years on this car 29 miles per gallon no way try 21. There are alot of things that a car at just under 20 grand with all the options and extended warranty need to be addressed but I have found many younger drivers just throw them to the way side cause of the torque and hp. Well guess what I can take a 15grand car and for for under 1500 bucks can get any car to beat the se-r and still pay less. There are alot of 'Technician Notes' of issues that this car is having and with all the driving that I do I have seen most of them. This isn't a car you want to keep for years like my old Sentra that I had for over 10 years. So if you are an individual that actual needs to do more than just drive around go with another model.
Pros: Nobody expects a Sentra to be as quick as the SE-Rs are.
Cons: The cup holders.
Advice: Just because it's a Sentra doesn't mean that it's slow.I love my Spec V. It is an awsome car. The only other car out there that has better performance for under $20,000 is the SRT-4. The only problem with the SRT-4 is that I didn't think that it was as well rounded as the Spec V. Also, any complaints about the torque steer are a lot worse in a SRT-4. But if performance is your only real concern, mainly in a strait line, than the SRT-4 is the way to go. But for those of us who want a well rounded, good looking vehicle, the SE-R is the car to get.
Cons: exterrior ass-end
Advice: Before you buy anything else, give this one a test-drive.I went to a nissan dealership looking to buy a used maxima. The dealer talked me into taking the spec-v for a test drive because it was new and with warranties, not offered any more on the used maxima. As soon as I took it off the lot, I couldn't believe the pickup it had. It handled so well with corners, and the stock features on it were impressive. Needless to say, I ended up buying it instead of the used Maxima, and I am starting to add aftermarket parts. I didn't like it at first because I wasn't looking to buy one originally, but it grew on me real quickly. I love driving it, and for the price, I would suggest it to others looking for a fun ride.
Pros: TORQUE, comfort and handling
Cons: After market needs to catch up
Advice: Love the car for what it is because the aftermarket parts are few and far betweenTORQUE, need I say more??? This 4-banger has lots of torque almost eliminating the need for a turbo to compete with other cars in this class of 'Economy-Compact-SpeedFreaks'. I just hope the aftermarket catches on so I can personalize mine a little more.
Cons: Gas Mileage
Advice: Look closely and compare to Corolla, Protege, and Lancer.Have had the car for about 700 miles now and like the car except for the gas milage, which hopefully will improve, and I wish the a/c blew stronger on the lower settings. Car drives very nicely and the brakes are very good. Glad they upgraded the tires to 15' this year. For the price I paid, am satisfied with the car.
Advice: Buy it! It's the best bang for your buck. For a car that's well under 20 grand, nothing beats it. The car makes my everyday drive to work a blast. For the price, it's hard to find any faults with the SE-R Spec V. Drive one, and you be the judge.
